Yeah, we beat some good teams toward the end of the season to earn number 1.
And UGA will beat some better teams to end the season than they have faced so far. The point remains, UGA being ranked #5 (if that's what even happens) right now means Jack shite.

Yep and then they'll probably move right back up after they beat three ranked teams in Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Missouri and as Michigan/OSU devour themselves

CFP loves to make storylines with their first few polls because they know otherwise they don’t matter
No they don't. It's because Georgia hasn't been as subjectively or objectively impressive as the other teams in contention AT THIS POINT IN THE SEASON.
Ohio St. has a win at Notre Dame and over Penn St. (both were ranked in the top 10 when played)
FSU has wins over LSU, at Clemson, and Duke.
Michigan doesn't have a good win. In fact, their schedule to date has been bad. However, they have been more dominant than any other team in the country with an average margin of victory of 35 points.
Oklahoma has a win over Texas.
Georgia has played a weak schedule. Their best win is at home against a currently unranked Kentucky. Yet, they also struggled against (at best) very average teams in Auburn and South Carolina
Georgia being #1 in the polls is NOTHING MORE than a result of them having an inside track by starting at #1 in the preseason. Voters have always, illogically, been reluctant to move a team down if they haven't lost...even though other teams have objectively and subjectively performed better.
If the first CFP poll has UGA outside the top 5 it is because they haven't performed better than those teams a head of them to date. That doesn't mean UGA can't eventually make the playoff when it is all said and done or they may not be the best team in the country. But as it stands NOW UGA should be behind those teams.

quote:Michigan has played absolutely NO ONE. There would be way more teams undefeated with Michigan's schedule, than with UGA's. I don't like Oklahoma top 4 either, but the only other legit options are Washington and Oregon
Assuming no upsets... Ohio State, Oklahoma, fsu, Michigan will be the top four ... Rankings committee representative saying Georgia could come in at 5th in the cfp Tuesday. Weak sos etc. If this is the case, just their loss to us should be enough to keep them out of the top four. And probably don't want them to take another L from Florida etc

quote:if Michigan loses to Ohio St and LSU wins out, they'll be over them. Michigan has a 2 team schedule. Neither a 1 loss non Big 10 champ Penn St or Michigan would get in over a 11-2 SEC champ LSU. LSU's schedule, wins AND loses, will be looked at way more favorably.
Need the PAC to whoop on each other. Would help for Penn state to beat Mich also. Keep B1G at one playoff team and we may have a shot.
Pac will beat each other up. Each team has landmines all over.

I don’t think that will happen. There’s really no reason to have Michigan in the top 4 and not Georgia

There is no way that a two time defending national champion that hasn't lost a game in 3 years doesn't stay in the top 4 if they lose their conference championship in a close game to an LSU team led by a Heisman contender. We need them to lose a regular season game or we won't jump them.

LSU also has to beat Texas A&M as well as Fla

Current SOS:
Florida State 28
Ohio St 29
Oklahoma 35
Washington 47
Michigan 73
Georgia 94
For reference, LSU is currently 12, but will go up significantly after the Bama game.

We are really talking playoff scenarios with Bama, Florida, and A&M still to get through?!?

Kinda weird to hold UGA out for SoS but have Michigan in the top 4. At least with UGA you have the fact they are 2X defending champs. Mich has done nothing when playing top teams. Without looking, their SoS has to be worse than UGAs.
It’s hard to find up to date SOS info on Google, but UGA’s is in the 50s-60s while Michigan in in the 70s at the moment.
The talking heads are regurgitating their same tired argument that they usually use for Oklahoma “but they’ve dominated their [soft] schedule so far” …. Mich has played a CUSA type schedule so far this year, it’s comically bad.

LSU had already beaten like 3 top ten teams by that time in 2019. They already deserved that 1 ranking before the back end of the season lol

Fsu almost lost to dog shite bc. Oklahoma almost lost to dog shite ucf. And like the above poster mentions, Michigan has the shittiest schedule to date.

quote:Hell, we were 3rd before Army. And for the people that don't understand Michigan's SOS being higher than UGA's, it's because of a 6-1 Rutgers and 6-1 UNLV. That's it. That's the difference. Neither of those teams would beat South Carolina, Auburn, or Kentucky.
