Scavengers Reign (Netflix premiere 5/31) Spoilers starting 11/9 posts

***5/31 Update: Sold to Netflix from Max and now available to stream. For those who have never watched, there are spoilers halfway through the thread.***
Pleasantly surprised to find something new and interesting on Max buried under all that reality tv excrement. The first three episodes out of twelve dropped on 10/19. Three episodes will be released each Thursday until Nov 9. It’s incredibly trippy and weird, but that’s what has me hooked so far. Reminds me of something from Love, Death + Robots. They are quick, ~25 min episodes so if it sounds interesting I highly recommend giving it a shot.

“When a deep space freighter is damaged by a solar flare, its surviving crew are stranded on a beautiful and unforgiving planet. They begin to learn the true nature of this planet as they try to survive long enough to escape or be rescued.”

The scenery and creatures remind me of Nausicaa. I'm going to have to check this out.

VERY MUCH nausicaa like from that one pic anyway.

Just watched the first episode, and yeah, its pretty good. I like the style of animation; a call back to the 70s and 80s when it was still cel animation, and not the CGI that everything is today.
I'll try to catch the next two episodes today if I can.

Watched the first three episodes, enjoying it. That's one fricked up planet

First three episodes were great. Short and to the point.
The next three were released today.

I watched the latest 3 on a flight last night. These animators are blowing it out of the park on the world and creature designs. Liked the backstory we were given and my opinions of the creepy mind-controlling frog thing took a 180.

The animation just looks and feels better, compared to the typical CGI animation we see today.

I just finished Episode 4, and it looks like Kamen is a piece of shite.
My 15 year old is into anime type stuff, but I think this might be right up her alley. It's violent, but not in a way that I'm concerned about her seeing.

I watched episode 6, and holy shite. Can’t wait for Thursday.

The trailer looked like it had heavy inspiration from the Love/Death/Robots episode from S3 "The Very Pulse of the Machine". Will check it out.

Flew through the first 6 episodes a few days ago. Great recommendation. The amount of thought/detail that the writers and animators put into the planet is incredible. The main antagonist (so far) feels like an "evil" Studio Ghibli character.
My only nitpick is the food situation. Azi losing her tomato crop was made out to be a big deal in the first episode, but nothing comes from it. No one is suffering from starvation.
And I would have never picked it up watching, but the robot is voiced by Alia Shakwat (Maebe Funke) and Sam (the redhead dude) is voiced by famous "that guy" Bob Stephenson.

This series is amazing. A visual feast, perfect pacing, just the right amounts of Studio Ghibli, Keith Giffen, Fantastic Planet, Moebius, Pokemon...
The slow build of the characters is making for a great watch. Love that it's broken up into 25 minute chapters.
Never heard of Wunmi Mosaku, the actress playing Azi (I thought it was Ozzy or Ossie.) but she's my favorite performance in this. The relationship between her and Levi is cool to see.
Great to have a series that you cannot watch with your phone in your hand. If you turn away from the screen for a second, you could miss something interesting.

Finally got around to watching the new episodes. I liked the introduction of the new characters, even though one is a grade A C-U-Next Tuesday. Very excited for the final 3 tomorrow.

Thought it was great. Really have to give it up to the animators again because even the smallest of creatures has more creativity than some new shows and movies. Nice range of emotions from the loss at the beginning of episode 9 to the return of the best character during the final confrontation. Was hoping for a worse ending for some of the characters. As far as the very end, looks like she was found by some lepers with a nice arse ship.
I really hope this gets enough views to get us a season 2. I can’t take the loss of another trippy-arse sci-fi show after they robbed me of Raised by Wolves.

I really enjoyed this series. All the way down to the opening title sequence (which I never skipped because it was so short, informative, and beautiful).
If there was a less than great portion of the series for me, it would be the introduction of the "criminals". It changed the "scavengers vs the planet" vibe a little too much. But even those later episodes were better than most of the stuff out there.
I thought they wrapped up the ending well. Even with their telegraphing that the cavalry would come to Azi's rescue in the final episode, it still caught me off guard. I thought that the main character who died along the way might return in some fashion as well, but no.
There's a ton of drama left for the second season, with the resolution of the Demeter's crew and the mystery of Kris' new companions.
One nice thing about the casting: Pretty much every actor would work in a live action adaptation. Cast and Character Comparison on TheDirect.com

Ridiculous that this show is not on the first page of the featured shows on Max. This is very well done and I'm only 4 episodes in. Great story line and world building.

It was great the whole season. There are some minor spoilers above so please watch out until you finish.
I haven’t watched it yet, but someone that recommended Scavengers also said Pluto on Netflix is a great new animated sci-fi series.
Synopsis: A murder occurs in an orderly world where robots are unable to kill humans. The robotic Europol investigator Gesicht takes the case, but the mystery deepens when he finds no trace of a human at the scene of the crime.

So animated I, Robot?
