Last year after the previous playoff run that got everyone's attention, they came out guns blazing and had people noticing them and getting excited even during Saints season, because the Saints sucked.

Then they fumbled the bag completely and everyone went back to not noticing.

The Saints are even more shitty, and even more frustrating. The fans are fed up with them.

The Pels have a REAL chance to capture everyone's attention and give people something to care about. It would be pretty nice if they did something about it for a change.

Setting the O/U at 13.5 games until we lose a major contributor or several for an exorbitant amount of time

It’s a time honored Pelicans tradition

Most reasonably intelligent fans are capable of being huge fans of more than one team. It’s not that difficult. I’ve even found I can be a huge fan of LSU, the Saints and the Pelicans.

The point is what the hell does it matter if the Saints are good or terrible in how much the Pelicans can capture the spotlight in New Orleans. If they win fans will be hugely in to the team, regardless of how the Saints perform. There is no correlation, so I don’t get the whole premise of this thread. Does that help?

This isn't hard.

The Saints always overshadow the Pelicans in the city by a very very very large margin. While many people on here are a fan of both or a diehard of both, the majority of people are diehard Saints fans and are generally aware that the Pelicans exist.

If the Saints stink and people are very frustrated with them, it gives the Pelicans an opportunity to fill some of that emptiness.

Again, this isn’t hard. You can easily be a fan of both teams, they play different sports and only overlap for two months of the year. I would also say if anything, when both teams are good (if it ever happens) it would only help fandom for both. I’m not any less of a LSU baseball fan when the LSU football team is rolling and vice versa.

You can and many of us here are. However, if you pay attention, many casual fans tend to gravitate to the team that is winning and many have limited income to put towards a team when choosing games to attend.

What don't you understand about this?

That is the case for many on here, but it isn't the case for the general public.

Try getting a bar to put on a Pelicans game on a Thursday night. They won't even know what channel they come on.

If the Saints stink, more people will turn to LSU and the Pelicans as entertainment options, if they are good.

I agree with Fun Bunch here. Unless pelicans are in a playoff series the New Orleans general public will not care. Pelicans NBA regular season basketball is not something local bars put on, they rather put on any other football (college/NFL).

If Pels can somehow get into the In Season Tournament - the bandwagon could roll to town earlier than most seasons.

Not only is their very little correlation with how the Saints are doing to how the fans will support the Pelicans, your premise (to the degree there is any correlation) is wrong. If you’ve spent any time in New Orleans you know the vibe of the city is different when the Saints are good and winning. People are fired up and you can feel it. When the Saints suck it’s the opposite. When people are excited they are much more likely to want to go to a Tuesday Pels game at the Blender than if they’re pissed off and depressed with the Saints. It’s just human nature. When you’re excited you want to do things. So to any degree the success (or lack thereof) of the Saints affects the Pelicans, it’s a positive when the Saints are doing well. But bottom line is if the Pels are good the fans will show. And nothing in the foreseeable future (other than the team moving) will ever make New Orleans anything other than a Saints first town.
