That night Etling took over for Harris I knew it was over for him. I wanted to see what Etling could do but then I sorta felt bad for Brandon. But he couldn’t even hit a guy in the hands that was 7 yards away. He threw it like he was 30 yds away. Very sad. Etling really turned out to be decent.

Imo the coaching and then playcalling make or break a qb career there is no way that all the Lsu qb were misses. I gotta think some of our drafted and practice squad qbs were 1-4round talents with good coaching.. the talent was there, but not being coached to do the small things like pass wr open look wr open and audibles. Then training and allowing a qb to learn what is a favorable defensive set and how to move the players around to get them in a good position for the play call or specific matchups.. it starts with coaching and bleeds into the qb after reps and you pretty much have a coach on the field

OL is by far the hardest to project.

I have to do QB. How many QB's have we signed that didn't amount to anything? Our most talented QBs this century are all transfers:
Mettenberger, Burrow, Daniels.
I mean yeah. gotta be. A&M has been recruiting off the charts since NIL and they're starting Max Johnson. Milroe ain't a WHOLE lot better at Bama and their other two looked multitudes worse.
Also. I don't think Mettenberger was actually a transfer. didn't he get kicked off GA and LSU offered him later?
I only make the point because I was wondering when the last time a QB transferred within the SEC and they did well?

Felipe Franks was pretty good.

They miss on a lot of the athlete type QBs. They get dazzled by the athletic ability, but many of these QBs are one read and run in HS. They get to college and can't read defenses and don't want to put in the film study time.

It's definitely o-line and then defensive tackle. They're both positions where nobody in HS has the body to really play the position yet so you're more or less rated by your frame, and o-line is nearly as complicated as QB mentally.
