I have never understood why three cities don't have a NHL team.
1. Milwaukee. Very Scandinavian, while the city, proper, is 40% white (mostly Sandinavian), the city, proper, has 400,000 people while the "Metro" has 1.5 and that is 80 percent white. College hockey is huge there and in the Upper Peninsula precisely because there is no NHL team.
2. Kansas City. Similar to Milwaukeee and there is also no NBA team there (odd that basketball crazy has no NBA team) so the NHL team would "own winter pro sports" there.
3. Houston. Simply because if "warm" cities like Los Angeles and Anaheim, Dallas, Tampa, Miami and now perhaps again Atlanta have teams I am surprised Houston does not because it is a huge market.
I have also wondered about Cincinatti (see Kansas City, no winter sports) and Cleveland, but maybe Columbus is close enough to cover both fan interestests in those cities.

There's been talk of a team in Cincinnati, but I doubt that happens since Cincy is under 2 hours to Columbus. tCBJ AHL affiliate is in Cleveland.
Milwaukee is only 1.5 hours from Chicago, I think that's perhaps the reason. Not sure if they are Hawks fans up there or what, but that seems likely.

Salt Lake, too.
Soon to be awarded another Winter Olympics. The Coyotes should move there.

Halcyon would be great for me. Quick shot across 20 and down 400 a couple exits. That's prime real estate for the Atlanta folks that would pack an arena.
My vote is to bring back the Knights. Don't want anything to do with Thrashers or Atlanta Spirit Group.

I want the Thrashers name back. Along w/the logo and color scheme. They fricked!

It’s not impossible, but it would require some work.

The NHL wouldn't even be considering coming back to Atlanta if it was just strictly a downtown location.
Because the NHL doesn’t ever want to admit that they approved a sale to the biggest group of shitheads to ever own a professional franchise (ASG), so they blame the Thrashers being in Downtown as the reason the team failed.

Getting to downtown Atlanta from suburbs to catch a game is incredibly difficult due to traffic. It makes for a long evening. (especially if you have to work the next morning)
Getting to the Forsyth location will be a mega bitch for people not in Forsyth, North Fulton or western Gwinnett. Add in no MARTA access and you basically are stuck on 400.

You act like going to Braves games on the rainbow road of highways isn’t a bitch and a half.

The same thing was said when the Battery/Truist opened. Remember when that woke douche Jeff Schultz (he was still at the AJC) said it would be "traffic Armageddon.". I 'member. .
And then when that didn't come to pass, the AJC kept doing hit pieces of how the Battery came about and how the Braves were underhanded and other shite? They finally gave up the ghost after 2 years or so. People got tired of that rag doing rag shite.

Yep.
But don't say that too loud in here. That goes against the MSB narrative of aTlaNtA dOeSnT sUpPoRt hOcKeY

I live 5 minutes from Truist Park so it isn’t for me
(On a serious note, it is a pain if you live in the northeastern and southern burbs. Plus the Battery would be a kickass transit oriented development if it had a MARTA stop).

AJC gonna AJC. I still think the deal with Cobb was utter crap though.

Was it widely known how bad those owners were when the sale was completed? The league blocked other owners from buying teams before. So if they knew what the Thrashers owners would do to the team, I doubt they would have ever approved the sale.

No.

Part of the problem was that there wasn’t a clear majority owner, and that a higher bid was spurned because one of the ASG members was Ted Turner’s son-in-law. The person behind the higher bid (David McDavid) ended up suing.

And all kinds of sordid details came out during that process. The Spirit weren't qualified to run a lemonade stand.
It was a serious black eye for the NHL to have ever allowed a sale to such a shifty ownership group. But, if memory serves, the NBA approved them first, which kind of put the NHL at an impasse. Looking back on it now, it's not terribly surprising that the NBA did this, because the Hawks were treated vastly differently than the Thrashers ever were by the same ownership group.
