Guys I’m just about at the end of my rope trying to get my dryer working correctly again. I’ve spent more on parts at this point than it would have cost me to buy a used one off of Facebook, but im determined to just fix the one I have.

We have to run it like 3 times to get a single load dry. Clothes are not overly wet when they go into the dryer, so the washing machine is doing its part. I’ve done the following to get this thing working again (all Whirlpool factory parts)

1.Replaced rollers and belt: dryer drum is spinning great and doesn’t sound abnormally loud or anything.
2. Removed back panel to clean out lent from inside of dryer
3. Tested power and getting a full 240v to plug
4. Changed heating element: Air is hot in drum and hot blowing out the back of the dryer
5. Replaced the felt seals
6. Tested timer and it’s working
7. Got on roof to remove lent from around vent cover and took a leaf blower to the vent to blow out remaining lent in vent tubing that runs through attic

My next step is to change the thermistor because im assuming I’m having a heat regulation problem, but idk what else to do. I’m about to lose my mind on this thing. I thought it would be easier to fix than replace because I didn’t feel like moving it down stairs and bringing a new one up. I’m now about ready to throw this thing out of second story window.

Any other suggestions on what could be wrong with this thing?

I’ll add that we had a lightning strike on our house, but we can’t remember if we were having these issues prior to that or not.

I blow mine out with a leaf blower regularly, but I still have to use this. This is my last house with a dryer vent not on an exterior wall. No more 30 ft runs that go out the roof.

Try to dry a load of clothes without it hooked to the exterior vent. It will be hot and humid in the house but you will know if its the dryer or a blockage in the exterior vent.

Definitely sounds like its not venting properly if everything else is good. Is there a long run to the exterior vent opening? I can’t believe they still allow long vent runs on dryers since they can be such a fire hazard.

It's a fairly long run up to the roof from my second floor. Probably 25 feet or so. It goes from dryer, straight into wall about 6 inches then takes a 90 degree turn straight vertical.

I hate it being vented to the roof.

Tried this last night and it worked a little better. I'll have to go get the vent cleaning kit. I have about an 8ft brush that I used to clean it out some, but I guess there are still some spots clogged up.

Did you change the sensors in the heating element tube?

No I did not. That was going to be my next move. Are you talking about Part # 15 - High limit Thermostat? Or Part #9 the thermistor?

If its not venting properly and the heat is working like its supposed to the drier itself will be very hot to the touch, like the exterior of the door or the top flat area in front of the controls.

Long runs (like over 25 feet) to the exterior sometimes will benefit from a booster fan installed in the vent line.

My son had a similar problem. He had a long run through the attic with several turns. We blew it out with a gas blower and saw the dust cloud from the roof.

He wound up replacing the electric dryer and continues to have problems. It take a couple of cycles to fully dry.

We are considering venting it into the garage.

That's a long run. As posted above, run it without venting it out and see what it does. A run that long needs a booster fan or to be shortened. With all that you did, its got to be clogged somewhere.

I would change 9 and 15. They are ususally sold together.

Drop a weighted line from the roof and tie a tshirt to it. Pull the line from the bottom to drag out any clogs.
