The most mind numbing sequence Saturday

FWIW, denbrock called a great game for the most part. But one play made no sense.
3rd and 5 from the ole miss 48 with 3 minutes and some change to go. Denbrock calls a QB rollout, immediately eliminating half of the field for the offense to work with. Basically taking away any chance JD might have to make a play if the play to nabers isn’t there (was clear PI on ole miss, but that’s beside the point).
And then this idiot BK allows his offense to punt the ball away to an offense who hadn’t been stopped all game.
How in the frick do you trust your defense to get the ball back there after watching that game?
fricking mind blowing and I can’t stop thinking about it

Punt goes either way.. it’s 4 and 8 on their side of the 50. We are up 2 points and we’ve stopped them somehow twice in the 4th. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. We had too many chances to ice that game up. As a team, couldn’t find a way.
I’m more pissed that you lose after scoring 49 on the road.

BK was once a DB coach. You are correct. Makes zero sense.

Idk man, everybody and their dog knew what was going to happen when we punted that ball away

I didn't like that call either. Would have been better off running a draw there and playing 4 down territory. Defense wasn't stopping them regardless of field position. If anything a shorter field gives us more time on the back end.

I’m with you, but it goes either way. Like you said before, cutting the field in half on third down was not the best play. I’m guessing they thought ole miss was just gunna bring everybody.

Thing is, it was 3rd and 5 before that. Run it twice or even do the little inverted triple option.

Yeah, wasn’t a huge fan of the call either. Once you got to 4th and 8, put yourself in a shite position. Otherwise, they called a great game. shite sucks, I’m not ready to roll over yet. Still a lot of season left. Hopefully, they will learn and get better

I agree, because if we don't convert the 4th down, we give them a shorter field and get the ball back with more time on the clock to win the game.
If we convert, game is probably over and we win.

Or posting about it. This has to be at least the third time I've seen you post this.
The punt was the right call analytically after the 3rd down conversion failure.
The case to be made is deciding it is 4 down territory before third down. Then they could have opened up the playbook a little there, being willing to check down for less than a first down or run the ball to set up a 4th and short if they didn't make it.

I posted this once right after the game. Thanks for noticing.

analytically my arse, punting there was conceding the game.

I'm just telling you what the analytics are. 4th and 7 or 8 is not the time to decide it is 4 down territory when you have the lead. It just isn't. LSU had stopped Ole Miss just two series before, turnover on downs.

I didn’t like the play call but Nabers was open and JD for some reason didn’t throw him the ball despite looking that way

Not to mention that it was also a terrible fricking punt from Bramblett. Pretty sure it netted like 20 yards

Yep. I’m tired of all this sky screaming on here but that was a piss poor call.
You CAN’T put your defense back on the field without an effort to run out the clock and/or score again. Diggs or Jackson up the middle on third and five and pick up 2-3 yards or more. Play it safe because you ARE going for it on fourth down. You miss it and they get the ball at midfield, what the frick does that matter? They’ll just score quicker.
But no way in frick do you purposely put that piss arse defense back on the field expecting a stop when just a FG wins for them. I typed “game over” when the punt team came on. And I’ll be damned if Jayden and the offense wouldn’t have pulled it out except for the Hilton drop. But that’s another story.

Yes, I thought the same thing, it's 3rd and five, you have a QB that's a tremendous running threat. Why roll him to the sideline and cut the field in half, makes him much easier to defend. You either run the ball right at them and set up a 4th and two, or dropback with receivers on both sides of the field as options. If they are covered you let Daniels run as the DBs are spread out and that's where he is best

Ease your pain because the call was a good one but one problem... the QB held the ball. I call this image "Throw the damn ball I."
This is "Throw the damn ball II." Notice Nabors getting plowed by the DB. QB was under no duress in either pic...
FWIW, this is essentially the same play he threw against Bama for the win.

quote:Yeah, but Ole Miss got hit with a questionable hold so had to start from their 12. The amazing thing is that with about 2:30 left Ole Miss proceeded to run 5 running plays in a row to start the series.
