I think the RC at Bethpage in NY is going to be mother of all RCs, in terms of ratings and promotions. A truly big event.

That kind of event calls for prime timers as Captains.

I think it will be Tiger and Sergio.

Anybody else think or is there evidence that people likely decline the offer to be the US captain when the Cup is played in Europe? Rational decision seems to be to wait 2 years for a US cup for your legacy’s sake

Should be Tiger with Couples and O’Meara assistants.

But don’t get your hopes up too much. The Euros are always way more of a “team.” Which is remarkable since they’re from all over the continent and half play our tour more often and went to college here.

The US RC victories have been more due to sheer talent difference.

so they left him off the Ryder Cup team even in years he won majors and was clearly good enough for the team.

Isn’t it like a point system to qualify? So maybe he just wasn’t good enough

They're always trash comparatively when the RC is played overseas. When players tee off in the middle of the night, rating in the US aren't going to be nearly as good as when they're played locally. Add to that a bloodbath after the first day and a half, well what did you expect?

Ratings will suffer because it’s now America vs America lite

Everyone lives in America, everyone plays on the American tour, etc

Pretty sizeable drop in Ryder Cup viewership on NBC:

Sunday: 1.315M

Last European Ryder Cup (2018 in France):

Sunday: 2.467M
Saturday: 2.116M

Sunday
2014: 2.2MM
2010: 2.9MM

Saturday
2014: 1.9MM
2010: 2.6MM

Tiger was in it, right after he won at East Lake and in his first Ryder Cup appearance since 2012

From the 2014 RC in Scotland
quote:

NBC earned a 1.6 final rating and 2.2 million viewers for Sunday coverage of the Ryder Cup, down 58% in ratings and 60% in viewership from 2012 (3.8, 6.0M) and down 24% in both measures from 2010, the last time the tournament took place from Europe (2.1, 2.9M). Saturday coverage drew a 1.4 and 1.9 million, down 53% in ratings and 55% in viewership from 2012 and down 22% and 27%, respectively, from 2010 (1.8, 2.6M). This year marked the first time that NBC has aired live Saturday coverage of a European Ryder Cup. This year’s tournament produced the two lowest rated Ryder Cup telecasts since at least 1997, and almost certainly the two lowest rated ever on NBC (dates back to 1991). Individual ratings prior to ’97 were not available, but NBC’s two-day coverage averaged a 2.5 rating in 1991, a 3.8 in 1993 and a 4.1 in 1995 — making it unlikely that any individual telecast dipped as low as this year’s 1.4 and 1.6.
