It’s the 10 year contract that drives me nuts.

Did Woody start that idiotic trend with Jimbo at A&M ?

Any coach that isn’t confident in winning their own job security after 3-5 years shouldn’t have been offered.

Agree. Hate to admit it but I really wanted Lincoln Riley at the time.

It’s like current QB contracts in the NFL.

The trend is started by someone and it turns into a schlong measuring contest.

It’s a bad contract for a 30 year guy that has never won a nc and that guy being 60.

Woody should have taken the baseball route and hired young up and coming stud coach for decent price and a guy with some fire to him.

BK is a high priced high floor low ceiling guy. Basically Jimbo without a NC.

You just don't get this kind of defensive pedigree without throwing the bank at said coach.

Paying Lincoln 10M would be better because at least he is young and has fire

People react to this like "frick that pussy. He wanted no part of the SEC so I don't want him here blah blah blah"

Truth is, Riley would've been dynamite here.

Bringing his offensive schemes to the bayou and letting him pluck the best players from LA, TX, and all over the south would've been awesome.

And people wanna complain about his D. Oh well, thank God we went a different route so we could enjoy some lockdown defense instead.

Totally agree.

The ten year deal blows. We are stuck with Kelly for a long time and all that money that will eventually be used for a buyout won’t be used to buy players via NIL. TAF better focus on NIL and buying players. Kelly can win with talent but he needs talent first.

This tired arse idiot argument again. BK has won everywhere he’s been and sustained it. And he did win NCs at the DivII level. The defense is bad and he might ultimately fail but BK is proven. If a NC is the measure then we need to rehire Les.

Oh great he won a d2 nc no one cares about that. Feel better if the loser has never won a nc at the highest level?

It was a stupid contract for jimbo and les miles clone

There aren’t that many NC winning coaches currently coaching. We would be in a better position if he took the baseball route.

Yeah I mean that is pretty obvious. Contract makes it seem like we were in desperation mode, but this is Woodward’s MO.

The guy is not very shrewd lol. I wouldn’t agree to guaranteed 10 years of pretty much anything… that’s a long time.

You have LSU fans screaming for years that ND is constantly overrated because their schedule is weak, and they get exposed when they get into big games. Now he just wins everywhere he's been. Okay.

I never could understand the Riley love affair. He took over a National Championship team/program at Oklahoma. Ran it into the ground. The Ogre Orgeron humiliated him.
Then he moved to SC, with the best QB in the NCAA, in a conference that has no defense. He puts up gaudy offensive numbers. Then Tulane beats their as in a Bowl game.

His worst season was 10-2 in 2021.

To me, he is just like Kelly. He wins a lot of games, but just cannot get over the hump and win the important ones.

Well it was the highest achievement possible at that level and not something easily done. What kind of stupid argument are you making? A bad coach can’t win at any level. BK it clearly not a bad coach.

His contract might turn out to be a mistake. I think ten years is too long for any coach not named Saban or Smart.
He might not work out. But he is a proven winner and that’s what we wanted after O left us depleted. And not winning a NC in Div 1 is hardly the problem.

It’s because we were in the shitter. Ed O burned numerous relationships to the ground. I’m not defending the current product, but in reality, the 10 years is more indicative of how bad things truly were.
