in an interview before the game when asked why he fired Franklin during the year. He said that practice was chaos and non productive and that he felt he would lose his team if he did not make a change.
Just found that interesting.
Did anyone else see the interview?

They didn't get an worse. At least Tubberville had enough sense to change something, and not let the bad continue, as Miles did.

never a good idea to make major changes during a season. save that for the end.

actually, they did get worse. i saw a stat a few weeks ago that showed how they had less ppg after franklin left, not to mention they won only one more game.
i think the worst move in all was the fact that franklin is an option guy, and they didn't play the option qb till after they fired him.

He should have declined comment on that out of courtesy to the man for his time there. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned.

Don't care either way, but look at the opponents. Not nearly a fair comparison.

Tubberville is full of crap. Tony Franklin's practice's are never like that. The offense would have been a lot more productive this year for them in time had he let Franklin do his job but he took the easy way out and lost his football team as a result. Auburn has had great athlete's at the skill positions since Williams and Brown where there. They don't have difference maker WR's anyway and taking out Franklin only made their offense suck more. Franklin would have built an impressive offensive unit in time as he would have gotten the WR's that could help them and the QB who could run the system. You can't be half arse about anything especially the Spread. The Spread works if you commit to it. Texas Tech runs the exact same offense as Tony Franklin; it would have been very successful in time at Auburn. Franklin got a raw deal.

No he's not. He's a spread guy that created the offense that Mike Leach now uses at Texas Tech and the offense that Mangino uses at Kansas as well. Hal Mumme at New Mexico St uses the same Offense and it's the same offense that Kentucky used at Kentucky when Tim Couch was breaking records. His offense is the same one that came in with Troy and torched our Defense a few weeks ago. The offense can use option out of the spread if you want to implement it but he was a spread to pass and screen guy before he was an option guy. He ran a little more option at Troy because he had a good quarterback that could both run and pass very well. Burns was not that guy and is not even close to being as good as the kid they had at Troy for 2 years.

Jason,
Love that avatar. Where'd you get it or did you create it yourself.
You're not trying to insinuate anything are you? Heck, I'd take Spurrier in a heartbeat. Who runs his defense, because that guy is a stud year in and year out.

Thanks. I didn't create it. I saw it on google one day when I was searching LSU pictures and ran across it and got a kick out of it.
No I'm not insinuating anything although I wish he was here because he is a coach that would use all of our skill guys and bring out their full potential. He has nothing even close on his roster at USC that we have at LSU. His DC at USC is Ellis Johnson.

Sounds to me like there is a little territorial feelimg going on there. The players probably liked F more than T. T probably was jealous and fired hm.IMO

Uhh, they showed the stats yesterday near the beginning of their game and their offense was averaging 1 more point and a few more yards WITHOUT Franklin. Also maybe the quality of opponent increased as they went on, afterall, they did lose to us with Franklin.
I agree with TT because its better to lose a OC than an entire team of players. This system just did not work out the way they expected. I think the system is good but you must have the players to run it and AU just didn't have that this year.
Miles stuck by his decieision without waivering and how did that work out? The defense got worse and some players seem to have regressed. So for as much as TT was wrong and the possible harm that was done by firing TF midseason, Miles took the other approach and NEITHER worked out.

Looks like the schedule favored Franklins wins.

Whether Franklin is an option guy or a spread guy is beside the point. The main point is one that Tubs either forgot or never knew. You should never, ever try to change your offensive scheme in the middle of the season. You have to design your offense, set it up, recruit for it and commit to it 100% or it just won't work.
