This is something else people have to realize. This happened around 1982-83. That’s kind of late for something like that, but smaller towns around the south had this sort of stuff happening well into the 60’s pretty regularly. In a small town back then the bigger issue would have been getting pregnant out of wedlock than the age issue.

This is 100% true. I graduated from HS in 1979 and am from not to far from there. I had 15 year old friends dating guys in their 20s. Fairly common. Also, people didn’t look at teens the same then. Teens were kind of mini adults.
