iKamand on Kamado Joe not working and not supported by KJ

A little over two years ago I bought an iKamand to use with my Big Joe III. Really liked it, was great for long overnight cooks, etc. Tried to use it today and the app wouldn’t work. After doing a little research online I heard that Kamado Joe no longer supports the app. Something about the software being owned by a third-party etc.

I’m going to try to get some sort of credit back from Kamado Joe but was wondering what other options there are out there. I use the grill quite regularly the old fashion way controlling the top and bottom vent, but I do like having the vent fan and temperature control and temp probes for brisket, pork butt, etc. it’s nice to be able to control grill temperature, and monitor temperature of meat from your iPhone.

Anyway just wondering if anyone else has gone through this and what alternative you found. Thanks in advance.

This eventually happens to pretty much every electronic device controlled by an app on your phone. After getting burned a few times I now only buy wireless stuff with dedicated transmitters and remotes, or functional buttons/knobs. Recently "upgraded" to a full on wired thermometer kit with replaceable AAAs

Flame boss 500. I use mine on a Weber Smokey Mtn, but if it performs the same on the KJ I highly recommend it

Waiting on NOLAGT to weigh in. I know he is knowledgeable on KJs and other kamado type grills….

At least I did hear back from Masterbuilt Customer Service. They are going to give me a credit on their website for “accessories/fuel” in the full amount of what I paid for that iKamand
