It's awesome and great exercise.
Played golf, but a bad back shut that down.
Disc Golf picked up the slack and its easier for someone new to pick up and not spend a fortune.
Been at it for 20 yrs now.
Have met a bunch of great people along the way.

Do people use carts or is all on foot?
It is primarily played on foot but there are some private courses that rent carts. They can be useful in that scenario because they often have multiple courses and you pay for the day and can get more in if you ride. An example of that WAS Selah Ranch in Talco Tx but it closed last year. The majority of people carry their discs and other crap in backpacks but some use push carts or shoulder bags. I prefer a push cart if the terrain allows it.
I have been playing for about 13 years and having played golf all my life I have to say I prefer it now. One of the things I love is how much more you can move a disc in the air compared to a ball. If you need to throw 150ft out of a tunnel of trees and make a 90 degree turn for 30 more feet you can do it with a RHBH throw using a stall shot and the right disc with a lot of fade. Shaping shots and course management are what make golf fun and there is so much more an amateur disc golfer can do vs whacking a ball.
Buying discs can be addictive and I probably have 300 but the cost of DG still pales in comparison to ball golf. I probably play 10X as much DG as golf and I still spend less money.
My favorite course in the BR area is Flanacher (my hypothetical shot above us basically hole #3). A lot of people don't like it but I love hauling my dogs out there and playing 20 holes (I avoid #2 because it is trash if you don't have a spotter and holds water at the green).

Yeah, son and I started playing a couple of years ago.
We love it. Nice walks through the woods and throwing discs. Fun, and just a nice time.
I like watching the tourney videos from JMEZ and stuff like that. Watching pros throw discs like they do is just fun to watch.
I also watch anything with Simon on it. He's entertaining. Eagle's cool too. Lots of just cool pros that play the game. All really nice and normal.
Quite different from most spectator sports. Just a different vibe in the sport of disc golf which is expected and appreciated.

I like watching the two latitude 64 guys (Jonathan and johanes) funny dudes and good content. My wife worked with luke humphries’ (gkpro) sister for a while. He’s a solid guy

I help run a group of about 75 guys in Baton Rouge
We play all the time. A bunch of us are going to Little Black Creek, MS next week
It’s a great chill sport

Flanacher is a fun course. Hopefully they move 2 and 3 because the water makes it unplayable at times.
PDF is probably my favorite in LA with Solomon a close 2nd.
Matty O is worth the watch. Dude is a trip. Silas S from BR is one to watch. Kids really good.
My son started playing with me when he was 8-9 years old 20 years ago. Now he beats the crap out of me, but it's still a blast. Of course the Old Man sneaks up on him every once in a while
We play a round together about once a week. Got my Brother in Law started and now he's hooked.

We have been pushing BREC for more courses. Had a meeting on rebuilding Greenwood but far too many administrators reviewing it to get it approved quickly.
Scotlandville is too dangerous. It’s a shame bc the course is very well designed

I'm heading out in a bit to play. Today I am playing with putters and mid range only. It's a work on technique day. No run up. Just focusing on fundamentals.

I play solomon in robert a lot,
This is my experience as well. I'm hoping to go this evening. We play nearly every Sunday at Solomon.

Me. I played earlier today. I'm older so I'm not long off the tee but when my approaches are on (which they usually are) I can still score well.
Same here, I turned 60. I was throwing some good forehand, but it's starting to get away from me.

They have a disc golf course around the local soccer fields and the smell of weed isn't uncommon.
I played Morely Field in San Diego. I believe it is hole/basket #10, but one of the people playing in our group pointed out that this is rated in the Top 10 for the most smoked locations in the USA in Mile High Magazine. I never knew there was a Mile High magazine until then.

Best course in Louisiana is parc des families in marrero though.
I didn't make the trip their, but my group said it was an unforgiving course.

I'm in Baton Rouge. The rest of my group is in Covington (5 total). We call ourselves the 50Slippeddisc since we are all over 50, but we do have some of the kids now playing.
We mostly play Solomon.

I mentioned this to the one of the workers at Forest Park off of South Harrels Ferry. This park is big enough for 9 baskets, and if they would place some baskets in the woods, 18 baskets. This would be similar to Fritchie Park in Slidel.
BREC French Town Road park would be a great location.
We need a course on the east side of BTR.

I'm up in NC. We have a bunch of good courses around here. Nice variety.
Yeah, Matty O is a character. I think he's from Tuscaloosa right? He won the recent tourney at Maple Leaf last weekend. That course is way above my skill level. Don't like throwing over water, just because no telling sometimes how the disc comes out with me.
Yeah, easy to get hooked. It's fun and cheap.

What discs should I get to start?

That's normally all I play with.. I don't have the throw speed to throw anything above an 8 really. Never tried throwing a 12 or higher. It probably wouldn't go very far.
I'm older, but playing more would be nice, and would maybe get me a bit more speed.

Putter and a midrange. They sell cheap little 3 disc sets at most sporting goods stores. Entry level discs. That's what we started with.. heck I still use the putter and midrange. I only have 4 discs I think. I don't have anywhere near the skill level to have a bunch of different flighted discs.
