Traveling from South Florida (live in WPB) to visit Austria and Scotland next summer.

I'd like to maximize a points/loyalty program cc in the best possible way for airfare.

Any suggestions? TIA

American airlines credit cards.

Hit the bonus, wait for it to get into your account and then sign up for another one.

Once you have enough points for the round trip flights, jump on Chase or Amex and repeat the cycle until you hotels are paid for.

All of this of course depends on how much money you spend each month but if you spend over $2,000 this should be very easy for you to accomplish.

I haven't paid for a hotel or a flight in over 5 years.

I know it's been mentioned on here before, but I forget....How often can you sign up for different cards?

So the good news is there is always some way to get a bonus from a credit card and apply it to a European trip.

The bad news is award flights for next summer may be hard to find. Especially if you have a specific route in mind. Not impossible just difficult.

In my opinion, this is terrible advice for someone who's already within a year of departure and clearly has no idea about the CC game.

Depends on the bank. Every bank has different velocity rules on how often they will approve cards they issue.

Not as good as before, but here's an old thread on SD

LINK

barclays - 50k points (any amount spent)

citi - 60k points (3000/3 months)
LINK

Gotta find the specific link for the citi 60k point one though; because most of the other links end up at 50k (2500/3months)

If you want a generalized one; wait for the chase or capital one cards (either sapphire or venture) and combine it with their general use 1.5x card

Do not lock yourself into a particular airline. You'll want versatility in scheduling to maximize your miles. It can be a pain in the arse to transfer points even within the same alliance (United miles to ANA, for instance,) and there can be exorbitant fees involved.

I've been pleased with Chase Sapphire Reserve for years. Their travel portal is easy to use, and I can use points on any airline.

Do Chase or American Express points. They are the most versatile when it comes to travel partners. DO NOT, under any circumstances use United, AA or Delta points to fly on their alirlines to Europe. The redemptions are terrible. What I would do is to get Avios (British Air, Iberia or Aer Lingus) and use those for the flight. The redemptions are much better. Watch out flying BA into Heathrow as BA tacks on a hefty fuel surcharge. To use Aer Lingus you'll have to take a flight from Miami to IAD, Boston, New York or Philly first. You can get Boston to Dublin in business class for 50000 Avios off-peak or economy for 13000 Avios off-peak.

Domestic airline redemptions don't come close to those numbers.
