I was kinda taken back that he works and lives in my neck of the woods. He is slated to ref the LSU - Miss St game this weekend. Didn’t get to talk long but he did mention that he never looks at the ball because it never does anything wrong. He is an Okaloosa County Engineer who has never played a down of football but loves the game. Just sharing

How do you not play at least one down of football and then become a SEC ref?

I'm an attorney and one of my cases is against an attorney who is also a white hat (Crew cheif) in the ACC. He went to Texas for undergrad and LSU for law school, so he can't officiate either of their games.

One time I called their office to discuss something related to the case, and his associate picked up. Told me the partner (the ref) was out of the office doing "some sort of refereeing or officiating." The associate doesn't follow sports at all.

So at his client's deposition, I brought it up and asked him about it. Pretty cool stuff and they all have some pretty good stories.

Rules have nothing to do with your personal football skills. Your ability to interpret the rules and apply them in a high speed chaotic environment is what is important.

Meh, if a bunch of women can ref NFL games, I don’t see the issue.

Should be all women imo. They’re great at seeing everything a man does and pointing out what he did wrong.

Bill the King of college football has (now former) SEC referee Johnny Crawford on his show once-a-week. Its a great segment... very interesting to hear his perspective from his 20Y+ career as a major CFB referee

I read this as "meth head referee" and thought he can't be that bad.

Because you don't have people beating down the door to become officials, that's why!! I've been a high school football official for 17 years and I would be willing to bet you that the average age of the HS official here in Mississippi is mid to late 50's. There are no young people interested in getting into it. It's gotten to the point that they are having to play games on Thursday and Friday nights because they don't have enough officials.

I do understand that. I am an official for Soccer in Mississippi. I try to get young kids to ref when they are done playing HS soccer and rarely do they come out.

And most of the people you do get don't make it to a third season since the fanboys are generally assholes to them.
