I would highly suggest doing it yourself. I've done it myself at my house and have shown a half dozen neighbors how to do it also. It's extremely simple and very entertaining sipping on a beer at twilight.

That is slightly dependent on the entrance location though. I doubt it is not doable though.

To clarify, you need some window screen material and I used gorilla tape, but you may be able to use other duct tapes. Find the location they are entering and exiting the house from. Cut the window screen to where you can tape it above and on both sides of the location. Leave it long and loose enough so it wont be an issue for the bats getting out and the length is so they cant get back in. It has to be fully taped on 3 sides (above and on both sides). There are probably youtube videos for this also, but I have not looked. Leave the screen up for a few days until the colony has relocated and fill the location with steel wool, spray foam, etc. depending on what material the hole or gap is in.

I thought I had 5-6 bats in my external wall going in and out through an oversized weep hole above a bedroom window. Put the screen up and was amazed at how many there were. At least 50 of them.

Great explanation.

Edit: Thanks for the clarification.

Great points. I would still consider bringing in an expert for remediation. Pulled several hundred pounds of guano out of a building before. Also pay attention to matting season. A pregnant bat can't fly late into the pregnancy and could get trapped in.

Been battling these guys for past 3 years... I was successful at first - didn't see them for a few months but they came back I thought I had everything closed up but obviously not.

Now it appears they've moved to the 2nd story soffit so I have officially given up!

Agreed. Timeframe for exclusion is now, gotta wait until late summer or the babies can't fly yet. I see the small ones flying now along with a few bald eagle sized monsters I'm scared to go outside at night.

Second story soffit is an easy fix but dangerous. One of my neighbors had them there, and I told him I wasnt going up there to do it after explaining to him what to do. He ended up paying some high school kids on our street 100.00 to climb the extension latter to do it and supervised them from the ground.

this guy is based in Livingston Parish. He might travel over to the Northshore - if he doesn't I am sure he can recommend someone over in your area

Same premise just not a funnel per se. Would be taped down on 3 sides and leave full bottom open ended. The funnel would do the exact same thing though. Maybe that is all they could do with the location of the entry point. It looks like that is 2 soffits over lapping on different elevations, so a bit trickier.

Would putting a couple of big bat boxes in trees nearby also encourage them to find a new home once you get them out?

I love our backyard bats (not in my home obviously). They dominate bugs at twilight.

Call Parker Wildlife control. He works all over nola and northshore. He removed and remediated our bat problem when we had them last year. Apparently it’s pretty common in Mandeville and Covington.
