Glass half full: reasons for optimism

Call me pumper all you want, there’s still a lot of good things going for this team.
-FSU is very very good. Likely an 11-1 ACC champ playoff berth type team. They’re going to crush a lot of teams, way worse than yesterday. Their outstanding performance is overly skewing everything.
-The right side of the OL will get better, it’s inevitable Heard will play his way on the field and Jones will slide inside (where’s he’s projected anyway). Similar to what happened last season, will happen again.
-We get Maason Smith back. Will elevate whole unit tremendously. Wingo is a super stud, we’re starting to see flashes at DE.
-HP4 will never be so poorly utilized again wearing the P&G. House knows what he can and can’t do, sometimes experimenting fails, it’s part of the process/growth. He’s still an absolute freak, don’t forget that.
-Week 1 drops are unlikely to continue from the WRs. Week 1 is weird. I fully expect this unit to improve as the season goes on.
-DBs will get better. Stamps and Welch will continue to season and grow, they’ll contribute this year big time. Both offer better size & athleticism.
-Special Teams will get better as season goes on, similar to 22. Like the WR drops, just uncharacteristic mistakes.
-Speights is a player, lead the team in tackles, was all over the field for us and will continue to do so for us. Really like this kid a lot.
-We are objectively better/more talented top to bottom than every team in our schedule except Bama. You could argue aTm but we also get them at home.
-This game served as big wake up call off this program in 22, I think it will again in 23. Very humbling and an instant cold water bath for the hype train. I still really like this coaching staff and think they’ll get this team to respond bigly.
Still very bullish on this team, 10-2 is what I said preseason and I’m sticking to that. Geaux Tigers.

LSU is going 10-2 wining the West and going to the CFP. There will be a rematch with FSU

Yep. I think 10 or 11 wins is spot-on. All in all I’m loving where this team is at

It’s been a problem for Lacy since he’s been on campus. Don’t see that improving.
Coaches have to find guys who can make catches and get them in the field.

Y’all are high as hell. This is a 8-9 win team

The thing is, most of the stuff you are saying will never happen again actually happened last year and they still continue to happen.

Maybe not from him but there is a TON of high end talent in that room. Lacy getting benched for one of the young guys is certainly possible.
I agree Lacy might not be able to fix the issue, but the WR room on the whole/performance will absolutely get better as the year goes on.

The only position that concerns me long term this season is CB. Harris has to play and start and Johnson is out with injury. Welch needs to play. Options are thin.

What are you talking about specifically?

Wish I shared the same optimism.
Everyone....EVERYONE knows that JD refuses to throw the ball deep. Defenses will be more compressed all the time because of it, which will make scoring a lot harder than it needs to be.
Then, the defense is putrid when they only rush 3 or 4, which House does all the frigging time. When they rushed 5, the defense was outstanding, but for some weird reason, million dollar coaches didn't recognize that and adjust accordingly.
Seems that teams have learned how to neutralize Perk. Having Maason Smith back will help, but by how much?
LSU did win the West last year, but outside of a 3 game stretch last year, they have not looked that impressive at all.
Still gonna pull for them as always, but my optimism is totally shot.

Maybe. But we’re better than last year (9-3) and we get mizzou instead of TN.
Schedule still sets up really nicely as well.

I remember Dwayne Bowe dropped everything thrown at him as a fresh and soph… it happens with the younger guys

I mean you probably noticed I left out QB. I still like Jayden and think he’s pretty good overall, but he is limited. Hard to think he’s going to make that next leap, he is what he is.
House will make adjustments. Not sold at all HP will be neutralized like that more often than not. Still think he has a big year.
Last year was a lot of ups and down, this year might be as well. CBK said this team was still a year away, I tend to agree.

I like a lot of what you said but Daniels did not get better in the offseason. His game looks exactly the same. The throws behind the receivers when they are open for TD if he just leads them to the endzone bother me the most. It was clear Nabors was not happy with the under throws.
Posted on 9/4/23 at 3:53 pm to RocketTiger
Yeah I left out Daniels on my OP for that reason.
Again, I still like him and think he’s an above average SEC qb, but he’s clearly limited. At this point we know what we have with him. 9-10 game winner, not a superstar.

I’ll play devils advocate
So you think they have been training him at a new position all off-season and they are going to change it after one game? I bet you he plays inside this week against Grambling just like he did against FSU.
Really? Because Lacy struggled with drops last year as well.
Uncharacteristic mistakes? You realize we had special teams issues through the entire season last year right?
He’s the middle linebacker. He should be leading the team in tackles.
If you need to lose a big game as a wake up call every year, that’s a major problem

Why experiment with him in the first game of the year against a top 10 team. Experiment week 2 against Grambling
