Whole 30

Any people here who have done Whole30? What do you think? I’m on day 12 of my second one and don’t know anyone who’s done it in real life to chat with.
I feel amazing and clothes fit way better already. I’d like to transition to a very similar eating style when it’s over, but with less meat and eggs. That’s my only complaint about eating this way or paleo - there’s a big reliance on meat.
Anyone eat paleo or Whole30 ish as their default eating style? I’m thinking the way I could rely less on protein is eating quinoa or maybe wild rice. Avocados and sweet potatoes are great but a non-spoilable option would be nice.

So you feel amazing and the clothes fit better, yet you want to change it by eating less protein?

Not a whole lot less, but I wonder how a little quinoa etc., would change the positive effects. I’m not sure how healthy eating so much meat is, compared to something more like the Mediterranean Diet.

Adding quinoa is fine, but don’t do it at the sacrifice of protein. Meat is not bad for you.

This gets into the whole cholesterol debate. My instinct is that a heavily carnivorous diet is perfectly fine (as far as heart/artery health) *as long as there isn’t also a lot of sugar in the mix.
Bacon fat melts in your hand (so body temp) but try getting sugar goo off. I’m picturing fat floating along in your blood and then latching onto sugar on artery walls. Completely unscientific and I eventually need to read articles. The info is so conflicting.

bro, protein and meat should be the basis of any healthy diet. Any and everyone. closer you can get to it being 50-60% of your calories, healthier you will be.
and on whole30 you are eating fruit and veggies. not like you are carnivore, not even close.
quinoa is fine...but better off just adding in some potatoes or white rice.
look into the vertical diet to transition into
not going to get into the cholesterol argument but we have been creaming about cholesterol for decades yet...deaths from heart disease is up. maybe there are other things in play.
if you are worried about that then look into the effects of pomegranate juice 100% juice not from concentrate and nattokinase combined with K2.

whole 30 is a great diet to start with, btw. add stuff slowly to see how you react.

I’ll look into that. I’ve heard about nattokinase but haven’t looked into it. I do lots of potatoes now. I’m not sure how anyone would stay full otherwise.

I did Whole30 the first time back in 2018. I followed it very strict that first 30 days. Went from 136 to 128 (I’m 5’3” for reference.) Allowed myself some concessions the next few months.
I did notice that dairy makes my joints inflamed. I can tell when I eat or drink dairy products because my hips hurt.
Whenever I feel like I need to shed some extra pounds I’ll eat Whole30 for a bit. I try to eat it for the most part anyway but I’m not super strict with it.
I’m happy to answer any questions you have about my personal experience with it.

Oh boy.
I do love how someone has convinced a lot of people that the Mediterranean diet doesn’t include a lot of meat. That person obviously never met a Greek, Turk or Lebanese person.

Why would anyone want to reduce the amount of healthy meat in their diet?
This picture is for 3.5 ounces of beef.

That’s what I lost the first time - 8lbs. Interesting about the dairy. I messed up the reintroduction phase the first round but want to do it right this time. I bet a lot of people with plantar fasciitis and random joint pain would get relief from this plan.
Day 14 update: feeling great. Big changes so far: abs are almost totally flat (any water weight, bloating - no more). Minimal craving for junk food even as I watch people eat pizza, tacos, chips. And I LOVE that stuff. Not missing the margaritas or alcoholic seltzers I used to love. Fruit tastes like candy now.
Needing less sleep. Waking up about an hour and a half before normal, ready to go. I read a quote from a Whole30er’s blog “I became the very best version of myself”. This thing is restrictive but it’s the same stuff we would eat if we didn’t have access to processed stuff. It’s basically just removing non-food from your diet.

Indeed. I don’t have a lactose intolerance but it makes me hate my joints. I’ve had 3 hip surgeries so I already have arthritis in them. Dairy makes me remember this everytime I eat or drink it.
It really is a helpful diet when you went to shed a few pounds. That’s some amazing progress you’ve had! I definitely notice less stomach bloat, especially around day 3 or 4.

I did it for 180 days. I need to get back to it. I felt amazing. Ultimately I found being gluten free and sugar free were key for me.

That’s incredible. I don’t have much of a craving for junk at this point (day 22), but I know I won’t be completely strict with this when it’s done. A lot of my social life is tied into cooking/eating with friends and family and it’s a bummer to turn down a little slice of cake someone was so excited to share. I’ve lost 11 lbs though, so it definitely is great at trimming the excess. I’m finding I’m waking up too early so I guess I don’t need as much sleep. Had a weird dream about mayo which I miss.

Check out Primal Kitchen. They make all kinds of condiments that are Whole30 compliant. In fact, I only buy that brand now for all my condiments, salad dressings, etc…

dont take this as criticism please, but man if they are true friends they will want you to be healthy and happy and will admire you decision. only those who are jealous will criticize you decisions to not eat certain foods.

No offense taken! There are definitely the friends who roll their eyes when you make extreme changes and the ones who cheer you on. I’ve always liked seeing people making good changes bc it’s inspiring, but some get annoyed for whatever reason.
