There is a fairly strict reporting requirement that must be followed with NIL. If you deviate or fail to report, there are penalties.

Maybe someone will correct me, but I just don’t understand how they can even enforce this.
If the NCAA had changed the ruling to allow for NIL under their own merit then maybe I could understand how a retroactive punishment for signing autographs would be enforced. However, it wasn’t, and was instead deemed unconstitutional for the NCAA to prevent athletes to benefit from NIL.
Would it not then be unconstitutional to punish athletes even if it is after the fact?

Nothing burger. Been hearing all camp how Maason has had a nagging injury and struggling to get back into playing shape.
So this is just as much precautionary from a health standpoint as anything. In other words why risk it this week if there was even a possibility that some minor infraction took place? He’s better off getting an extra week to get healthy anyway.

This still seems EXTREMELY avoidable.

The NCAA appeals process was unsuccessful. Why not appeal to a court since he is being punished under a rule that has been declared unconstitutional?

Or maybe they feel he is not quite healthy enough to play yet considering he has not been a full participant in practices for most of fall camp. So why not just placate the NCAA with a 1 game “suspension” and have an extra week to get into playing shape?

I was just listening to CBS’ Cover 3 podcast covering Week 0 and they mentioned Smith’s suspension. They have Danny Kannell and another FSU guy (both huge homers, obviously) and everyone on there still tore the NCAA up over this ridiculous decision.

I mean we are way deeper than last season, thank God for Jefferson, Shand and Lee. I don’t see that much of a downgrade with wingo and Jefferson at tackle spots. I mean, everyone has hyped up a guy that played in 2021, missed basically all last season and hasn’t been practicing with team, that honestly I don’t think he would of been ready week 1 anyway. How can a team rely on someone that fragile? Wingo is the real man, he played the most snaps of any defensive lineman last year in nation. Time for Tank and hopefully someone like Whit, Langston, Howard, Wiggins, Womack, Hill, or even Carpenter to step up. CBK brought in three tackles from portal for a reason. Let’s not worry about Smith bring a big loss, you can’t really lose what you ever had, his career has and will likely be a bust when it’s said and done. He’s like a Lawrence type, frick it

Where do you come from? You are going off of what exactly, 2 plays from last year, lol. Missed all of camp, damn near. Jefferson, Tank, Shand and Lee will do fine. Jefferson and Shand will be awesome this year

If this makes you sleep better ok. But this is not a nothing burger. If he has a nagging injury then that would be managed by the training staff. But he is a big time player who was being counted on for a big time opening game and there has never been anything to suggest that he would not be ready to go. And what he did to get a suspension is the nothing burger. Players getting 100's of thousands of dollars and they NCAA goes back to 2021 to suspend a player for a game in 2023. LSU should appeal it and run the NCAA through the ringer on it. NCAA is the nothing burger and needs to be disbanded.
