Wide Ranging Eric Clapton Interview….
Posted on 8/22/23 at 8:31 pm

The main discussion is the legacy of Robbie Robertson and the tremendous influence The Band’s approach to music had on Clapton’s own musical career.
While experiencing the height of superstardom with Cream, Clapton says his first listen to the “Music From Big Pink” changed his entire musical trajectory.
I’m posting it here because there are some interesting tangents about RFK Jr, Rand Paul, Corporate Media and Politics.

Clapton has always been a true rocker mentality unlike a lot of these other posers.
I expect Bruce Springsteen to pen a song praising the NSA for keeping us safe.

I think EC came to the conclusion the MRNA vaccines were crap.

And of course Rolling Stone continues the rage for the machine…

Eric Clapton Isn’t Just Spouting Vaccine Nonsense—He’s Bankrolling It Eric Clapton went from setting the standard for rock guitar to making ‘full-tilt’ racist rants to becoming an outspoken vaccine skeptic. Did he change? Or was he always like this?

You got any cliffs about Robbie and/or Rand?

My main takeaway regarding Robertson was the tremendous respect Clapton had for Robertson and the other members of The Band. Clapton said the name itself represented the anonymity that Clapton could not enjoy as member of a rock supergroup at that time.
Clapton indicated that Robertson was a vastly gifted guitarist. Yet rather than getting onstage and trying to one-up the other, every member of The Band played an equally important and vital part in the ensemble.
Clapton also said that while Cream and other popular bands of the time were following market trends and embracing psychedelia, The Band took a much more organic approach to creating music that did not cater solely to commercial considerations. The Band instead embraced the storied tradition of what is now called “roots” or “Americana” music to create a wholly unique sound.
As to Rand Paul, Clapton brought Paul up in passing while discussing how most people have no idea what politicians actually stand for but instead are attracted to celebrity. He says this was one reason for Trump’s success.
Clapton says since no one will take the time to watch CSPAN to investigate Paul’s positions, Rand would need to go on the “Big Brother” tv show to make himself know. He then says that RFK Jr. is getting his message heard by bypassing the corporate media and turning to alternative media platforms.

Clapton addresses the “gotcha journalism” that now largely represents the corporate media. Clapton says in the interview that he is not a “political person” yet his insights on how politics works are very insightful.
Clapton says the corporate media is a part of the “Political Machine.” This discussion arises in a discourse about the politics involved in what bands and musicians are allowed to make it into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame.
Clapton mentions to the interviewer that he only speaks to a few select alternative media outlets since most professional journalists are not interested in truth but instead are seeking to promote a particular agenda. In interviews, he said many journalists will ask him a series of loaded questions about complex and multifaceted issues — such as say Clapton’s opposition to vaccine mandates.
Clapton attempts to answer the question in good faith — which necessarily involves having some knowledge of the reasons for his opposition to such measures. Yet rather than consider his answer, the journalist instead goes directly to another loaded and hostile question giving no consideration whatsoever to Clapton’s attempt to address the earlier question.
This is how the conversation turned to RFK Jr. and the mention of Rand Paul. It is a fascinating interview for not just fans of Clapton but anyone interested in the true nature of today’s media culture.

I have always been a fan of Eric and his music. But it is good to hear his views on other matters as well.
Thanks for posting.

I saw him at the Forum in L.A. back in 86. Phil Collins was playing the drums that night. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to!!
