Was looking at yet another Mexican trip and found flights to Colombia for the same price. Looking into it accomidations are cheaper as is food.

Would likely stay city center 3 nights and on one of the beaches or islands 3 nights.

Looking for any advice. I see that 3 areas are favored for tourists, the walled city, Getsemani and Bocagrande. Will likely stay in those places. Looks like a high rise ocean view condo is around $66 which is considered high for a one bedroom airbnb there.

I stayed in Getsemani and really enjoyed it. It feels more like you're staying in a real neighborhood. Think of it as the Marigny/Bywater to the French Quarter. Does have a bit of a hippy backpacker vibe with the hostels.

There's really no reason to stay in Bocagrande.

Bocagrande had the ocean views and cheap luxury high rises. But I prefer the old town feel.

I think I'm also going to Rosario islands for at least 2 nights as well.

Yeah I get that, just don't think it's worth it. The beaches are kinda trash and you're far away from everything else.

How about Isla tierra Bomba, Baru peninsula or the Rosario Islands. I was thinking about the Rosario island. Though I can get a nice house in Baru with a personal chef for $95 a day.
Looking for 2-3 days with no internet and just want to relax.

Rental cars are dirt cheap too. I'm looking at going forget up the coast to Tayrona national park. Is that too close to Venuzuela?
I would think driving a car there during the day is fine. No worse than Mexico.

Other option is to fly to cali or medellin for 2-3 nights to see a different area. But Tayrona looks as nice as any Caribbean spot I've ever seen. Looks almost like Thailand. So I really want to check it out. Down side is most of the eco hotels out there don't have AC.

I can’t help with the islands as I did not go. I loved Tayrona, but full disclaimer that I was on an open-ended backpacking trip and time did not matter. If memory serves me right it would be tight to do it in the amount of time you’re talking about.

Medellin is one of my favorite places and would absolutely suggest getting on a plane if it’s you’re only time in Colombia

I’ve stayed in Cartagena for a few weeks. Colombian girls are freaking beautiful.
Also did a 40 ft scuba dive off a nearby island in the Caribbean.

People I've talked to at telling me to do half time in cartagena and half in medellin. I can take a much time as I want but I hate going away more than a week. I was thinking Friday fly into Cartagena. Two nights in Centro, then one night on the island then rent car and explore to the north of cartagena. Or skip the car go to airport and fly to medellin. Fly back from med on Friday.

This would be a last minute trip. I just thought about it Sunday. I would look to travel around September 15th.

Do you prefer ocean trips? What are you looking to get out of this trip?

See new things. I do like to be by the ocean when I travel. Even when going to Boston and Maine I hit the beach.

Cartagena is really not that great of a beach place. So sounds like you should probably do an island if that's what you enjoy. They look amazing and I only heard great things.

The bar scene was great and some solid restaurants. The heckling is pretty wild. Be prepared for it when walking around the streets.

Best thing we did was a catamaran with captain .

Have been a couple of times. Definitely stay in the old city if you can. Enjoy walking around, good food, attractive women, and great coffee. Also very cheap since the Colombian economy is in the shitter

My secret is, I am not afraid to fly Spirit. Lol.

Cheap arse flights and I just fly with a backpack to save on carry on.

It would be even cheaper if I was in the savings club.

The exchange rate is crazy. $1 = $COP 4,065.

So $2,000,000 pesos is like $500.
