So my house has been at 68 all day today. I decided to raise the temperature to give it a break. I raised it to 69 and it wouldn’t shut off. So I raised it to 70 and it cut off. So then an hour later I noticed it was warm in the house. So I checked the thermostat it was showing 72 degrees and now at 73. I went outside and nothing is turning on the outside unit. What do you think the problem is? Also it’s blowing inside and showing me a crazy 71% humidity It’s a trane

when was the last time you replaced the batteries in your thermostat?
when batteries get weak the thermostat gets possessed and start doing all sorts of strange things

Also.. I’ve realized that thermostat humidity reading aren’t always accurate

Those are things that need to be checked on site. If i arrived and you told me that, i’d put it on cool, bury the set point to about 65, and go outside to see if the inside was sending me 24 volts. Go from there.

The fan spins freely. The compressor kicks on and off because the fan isn’t working. I went out there this morning and free spinned the fan then the fan kicked on.

Sounds like a bad capacitor.

ItzMe1972 has it right. It is your start capacitor. The fact that the fan ran after you spun tells me the run capacitor is fine. I changed both this summer. If one fails the other one probably isn't far behind.

Mine did similar thing a couple weeks ago. If we turned off breaker after 30 minutes it would come back on when breaker was reset. Issue turned out to be outside contactor after trying thermostat and capacitor. $30 component
