New bussing plan that failed in epic proportions
Kindergartners on the bus with Hs kids.
Kids soiling their pants.
Dropped off in the wrong location.
Parents nor district had any idea where some kids were.
Last kid was dropped off at 9:58 PM.
All JCPS schools cancelled after the first day.
Thank God my kids are in catholic school.

It pisses me off to see kids suffer.
All because some adults want to virtue signal.

Sounds like a great day to me lol. Seriously, I would hate to be involved with that disaster.

When they were trying to make this look like racism on the news last night, I wondered why the parents didn'tgo get their kids. Some apparently were still at school waiting for a ride.

It will be interesting how this plays out at the state level with a governor’s race going on this fall.
State has threatened to take over the district and possibly break it up.
Current JCPS budget is just shy of $2B.
A lot of money and stakeholders.

Parents should take the kids to school anyway
Busses is just another thing the government fricks up

Big news here locally. JCPS is worse ran than any public school in Louisiana

Honestly many parents didn’t know where their kids were and the district couldn’t tell them.

Not every parent has that option. I know I know. Better choices and thinking before you let someone bust inside you.

The new plan was established to over come “systemic racism” in the district.
Eh. It’s far more complicated than that. The new plan was created because they have a massive bus driver shortage and kids last year were making it to school 2-3 hours late due to lack of drivers for routes.
Transportation is complicated here because they bus kids across the county to meet socioeconomic standards (it’s no longer based on race, that was overturned by the Supreme Court) in schools. And the district, up until the current Super, didn’t start building new schools in areas that have had population booms in the last 50 years so legitimately going back to neighborhood schools isn’t really feasible.
They fricked up by coordinating with some company out of Boston (who fricked up Columbus, OH transportation) who (per drivers) didn’t even have streets named correctly. And created NINE staggered start times. When they should have instead taken up UPS on their offer to help with logistics and made improvements that way. The board and the Super fricked up and will now lose the whole district over it.
Now the state legislature wants to have a special session to break up the district and take over, which is just going to be another fricked up situation.

Go ahead and elect another Democrat. No doubt that will help with all these cities run by Democrats.
Using kids as pawns in social experiments pisses me off.

Sometimes you just have to sit and watch the shite fall down around your ears. That's the only way some people will learn.

When schools began bussing kids, you had neighborhood schools and smaller towns (less neighborhoods and streets to spread the kids out).
Now that that has changed and you add in that kids are going all over the city to different schools instead of neighborhood schools, it makes sense that bussing has issues.

The new “school choice” for certain areas 100% is “woke” politics.
They can’t get drivers, and teachers, because kids can’t be disciplined and know the consequences will be minimal, if any.

The Republicans here haven’t produced any solutions to the problem either. Metro Council as a whole (17 Democrats, 9 Republicans) has sat on their hands. One of them had the solution of making local businesses call and tell JCPS how this is hurting their overhead.
I don’t know why we don’t utilize our public transportation here with the driver shortage. Allow JCPS students free TARC access during school hours to pick up the transport slack. But that makes too much sense.

The new policy was created so more kids could go to their neighborhood schools if available. That’s not what is causing the issue here though. It’s the lack of drivers. It’s been an ongoing issue that was going in pre-COVID and exploded after COVID.

That’s a large part of the problem. JCPS also goes with the mandate that they HAVE to transport kids. Legally, they don’t if they not ECE. What they should have done a long time ago is expel kids from buses.
It’s a huge mess but it’s complicated and doesn’t I just fall with one party or the other.
ETA: The other issue is bus driving schedules. Used to, drivers were typically retired teachers and staff that wanted to fill their time. Or it was a part-time position. That also complicates who will take on the job because it’s not typically an 8 hour, 5 day a week deal.
