from Bayou Bengal Blog:

Offensively, the Tigers don't believe in their quarterback play. They absolutely have no faith in Jarrett Lee, whose season has completely devolved into disaster. Lee was non-functional on Saturday, and when he injured an ankle which likely will end his season one could make a case that it was the best possible thing to happen to him. Lee has come back so many times from his own mistakes this year it has been truly amazing, and it's entirely possible had he not been hurt he might have been able to do it again (unlikely, but it has happened before). But at that point in his career, Lee looked like a guy who simply needed to sit down and decompress.

I'm told that the pressure and the adversity this year have frayed Lee emotionally, so much so that at this point he goes to class, goes to practice and goes back to his room - and that's it. He even eats his meals in his room from what I understand.

I hate to hear stuff like that, and I think some of this is a real testament to the effects you can derive from "fans" acting like asses rather than support their players during tough circumstances. But be that as it may, as much as you can feel for a guy who has gone through what Lee has gone through this year it's a real concern that a guy who's your starting quarterback should be reduced to hermit status. It's sad, and one can only hope that Lee can rebound from this next year.

Satisfied?

I also like how no one went near him on the sidelines in the first half Saturday. Nice job players and coaches.

They need a coach that is an MF so they have some unity, all fear his arse. They need a common enemy. I would pop these guys sweat glands.

Some people take the game waay to seriously. I feel for the kid. He's a tiger and he wants to win. Criticizing his play is fair game, but personal attacks or violent anger just don't make sense. If you are really angry at the kid, you have your emotions invested in the wrong stuff. Being proud of LSU goes beyond wins and losses, it's the tradition and experience of being an LSU fan. Some ppl need to chill the eff out and give the kid credit for fighting through this season.

It's one thing to critique his performance, and another to attack him personally. If you are teetering on the line, you need to back off and just support a little.

um, but that was TROY.

a freaking sun belt team that stopped running the ball altogether in the 3rd and 4th quarter for whatever retarded reason or another.

Troy could have KNEELED the ball every play for the fourth quarter, and punted on 4th down, and still won.

Face it, lee had his shot, and it just wasn't good enough. time to regroup and try again next season.

it's JJ's turn now.

I feel for Lee, I want him to be successful.

It's unfortunate he has had to play really before he was truly ready...The 3rd and long pick sixes are some coaching as well... Run and punt is sometimes the right call.

And now he is battling confidence issues..

Carr of the Houston Texans comes to mind.. Great talent..but he was sacked so many times, he could no longer really have the Poise needed to play the position...More about mental than physical

JJ gives me a lot of hope, because he has the physical tools to run and throw, great size..

FWIW, I place much more blame on the coaching staff than I do fans for Lee's frayed mental state. Time and time again they've put that kid in HORRIBLE positions and asked him to walk the tight rope. I like Hanigriff's "punch drunk" boxer analogy here...someone should have tossed in the towel at some point. Instead, they kept telling him, "C'mon...one more round."

Some of the stuff said about Lee (I mentioned the idiot at the game sitting behind me wishing him permanant injury yesterday here) have been way out of bounds...but it would be reaching a new level of blindness to suggest that the reaction Tiger Fans have had to his level of play this year was either unusual or somehow hugely different than he would have gotten anywhere else in the country.

People forget this is just a 19 year old kid. I'm pretty sure no one on this board could handle the pressure he inherited this season. What were you doing at 19? Probably going to college, going out, staying up late, maybe a job. This 19 year old has the spotlight as the starter for a program always in the spotlight and associated with an elite level of success this decade. He's been around one year to learn the system, a system he was supposed to be 2nd or 3rd string for until May, and then thrown into a game on the road at Auburn (I don't care how bad they are, they always play us tough), which he came back to win.

For those of you who bitch about how he's such a bad passer, you're not watching the whole game. Lee can actually throw some great passes that get dropped by SENIOR VETERANS Byrd and Lafell.

I feel sorry for the guy and this is heartbreaking to read about.

I agree this kid is 19 years old and should be having the time of his life. People need to remember that he is an ameture. The people that say bad stuff to this guy outside of the playing field that arent his coaches need to get a life. The kid has had a bad year but doesnt deserve this no one does.

This is a point where I wish we had a coach like Gundy that would go to bat for his players and tell everyone that he is doing everything right off the field and hes just not playing well on Saturday's. He never gets in trouble and from what the players have said hes a great kid just having a bad year.

This is a true shame that college football has come to this.

To the people that bash him, i wish they sould sit back and think... what if this was your kid, brother, cousin. This is a good kid and the team, coaches, teammates and everyone should get behind him and help him through this.

+1

he has been asked to do things which he is not yet ready to do.
a recipe for failure and it should be on the coaches shoulders if they destroyed the young man.

To his credit:
He must have a set of brass balls to come out fighting each week, knowing that "one" mistake will bring the criticism of about 90,000 ignorant people. How many of us could do that at 19 ?
He will become one hell of a leader.

If what you say is true, I am truly sorry that this young man has had this type of treatment from not only the fans but from his fellow players as well. It is very easy to sit, point fingers and criticise when it's not your arse on the line! I think he has done a great job for being thrown into a situation that he was not ready for. He's only 18, and a true freshman, give this young man a break.
I hope he does rebound from this year and has a stellar 2009. Go Jarrett, we got your back!!!!

It was also USCe with a highly rated defense and it was #1 rated Alabama, where he kept us in that game, with little to no support. Say all you want about the OT int., IMO if it weren't for Lee, we would have never sniffed OT in that game.

There are plenty of places on this board for you to continue degrading this kid, why don't you keep it out of here where people actually care about more than how embarrased you are to be an LSU fan??
