I can’t help but feel this new NFL-lite product being created is going to generate much less intrigue than the one that made CFB popular.

College football is abandoning their core audience to chase an audience that'll never watch anyways. Sounds a lot like what NASCAR did.
I can't imagine the TV ratings continuing to improve as more teams and fanbases continue to get squeezed out.

To some degree yes, in other ways it will be better. Check the week 1 schedule, that sort of thing will be going away.
