I feel like the last 10 years or so has been an Xfile episode. They literally did this in one of the episodes, but used bees instead to spread an alien vaccine.

There's an element of truth to your statement here but in toto you are incorrect my friend.
Mosquitos are attracted to carbon dioxide (CO2) that we exhale, the higher a persons metabolic rate the more CO2 exhaled so a "fat" person next to a skinny person of the same basic size would probably have a higher metabolic rate and exhale more CO2.
But consider this scenario, a large very muscular male (picture Arnold Schwazenegger) is near a smaller much "fatter" man (picture Danny DeVito). The muscular man's resting metabolic rate is much higher than the obese man and exhales more CO2. The mosquitos in the area will zero in on the larger CO2 source.
It has absolutely nothing to do with "sugar in the blood". If you've ever seen one of those fancy mosquito traps that use an LPG bottle they work by creating a CO2 plume that the skeeters follow to the trap. No sugar is needed to trap them.
