I had heard somewhere that Kelly was on the verge of signing the top 10 players in LA for 2024.Not sure when last time this was done. Did Saban, Les or O do that?

2001 was the last time and the only time since recruiting services existed.

Just to be clear though, even if we don’t get all 10, it would still be massive if we get Simmons and Durham from Duncanville.

Which service was that one or is that a retrospective claim? If I look back on 247 they don't have the Louisiana top 10 listed for 2001 but they have the #5 Louisiana player going to OU.

Scout and ESPN would have been the only mass consumer recruiting websites in 2001. Emsfinger and Lemming were still publishing at the time and I forget the other site (was gone by 2004). Rivals came on the scene in 2002. 247 arrived after Shannon Terry's non-compete clause ended for the sale of Rivals to Yahoo (but that was around 2010). Then there was the always reliable Dandy Don and his Louisiana Top 100 list which changed with LSU commits zooming up the rankings.

The 2001 247 list has another error: #6 Shyrone Carey

Shyrone Carey originally signed with Tennessee in the 2000 recruiting cycle.

Check Saban and Dietzel. I think both have done it.

247 timeline has him signing with both vols and LSU. Never show him enrolling to TN. Enrolled at LSU.

Another blast from the past (found on the internet)

247 article on Advocate's Super Dozen

Annually the Morning Advocate produced a listing of the top 12 football recruits in Louisiana. The above link is a 247 article reviewing 25 years of the "Super Dozen" including the 2001 recruiting cycle.

2001

Michael Clayton, Marcus Spears, Andrew Whitworth, Rudy Niswanger, Ronnie Prude and Marquise Hill provided the core of LSU’s heralded 2001 recruiting class. Clayton, a former first-round draft pick, just finished his fifth season with the Bucs; Spears his fourth with the Cowboys; Whitworth his third with the Bengals; and Niswanger his third with the Chiefs. Prude played two seasons with the Ravens before being released. Hill, who played three seasons with the Patriots, was found dead in Lake Pontchartrain following a jet ski accident in 2007. ... Brandon Jacobs is in his fourth season as a force in the Giants’ rushing attack, but it was no direct route that got him there. He made stops at Coffeyville (Kans.) Comm. College, Auburn and So. Illinois along the way.

WR Michael Clayton, Christian Life

DE Donovan Grayson, Karr

DL Marquise Hill, De La Salle

RB Brandon Jacobs, Assumption

LB Jason Mitchell, Abbeville

OL Rudy Niswanger, Ouachita Christian

WR Ronnie Prude, Fair Park

QB Brent Rawls, Evangel

QB Tristan Smith, Salmen

TE Marcus Spears, Southern Lab

OL Andrew Whitworth, West Monroe

LB Brandon Williams, Port Allen

Took Shyrone several years to qualify. Originally he was a 2000 recruit and not a 2001 recruit. That was the error on the On3 list that was being highlighted.
