Haven’t had this dish in years, but I made some stock the other day and got to thinking about it. Anyone have a recipe that they can share?

This has definitely been a sought after recipe in Alec forever . I think it has cream of potato soup as one of the ingredients .

never had it at The Cottage but looked up pics on FB. I'm guessing the base is a bechamel sauce which can be thickened using heavy whipping cream instead of milk. Or, since beurre blanc pairs well with fish, maybe the base is a modified BB using half n half or heavy cream. Use shrimp stock to add flavor and thin the soup as desired.

here's a BB sauce with lemongrass over fish

I guarantee it is not that fancy. It is probably campbells cream of shrimp with some seasonings. I’ve had it. It is good, but it is not fine dining.

I read "bechamel" and started laughing.

Update:

Not sure if it’s authentic, but going to give it a try some time.

THE COTTAGE SHRIMP SOUP
1 STICK OF BUTTER
8 OZ CREAM CHEESE
2 CANS CREAM OF POTATO SOUP BLENDED
1 QT HALF AND HALF
1 TBL LIQUID CRAB BOIL RED PEPPER TO TASTE
SHRIMP (SALAD SHRIMP ARE BETTER)

Please update if you make it. This sounds pretty close. You would think it would have some shrimp stock mixed in but mabye just the shrimp gives it enough of the flavor.

Recipe verdict: pretty close from what I remember. Little thicker, but I imagine they thinned it to stretch further.

Two things I would do differently next time. Either half or completely leave out the cream cheese. Or (and this was probably the biggest mistake) - use the immersion blender to purée the cream of potato prior to adding the half and half. I also added approx. 1.5-2 cups of my frozen shrimp stock I made last weekend.

I saw that as well, but I don't think that's it. There is some unusual ingredient like tapioca.

Was that amount of liquid crab boil overpowering in that recipe? I put a few drops in my seafood gumbos and soups, but a little bit goes a lonnnnngggg way in my opinion.

Interesting recipe, its basically just a blended Cream of potato with shrimp? Assuming Campbells? I'm always looking for something to eat with leftover shrimp.

FWIW all of these restaurant suppliers sell things like Bechamel sauce pre made. I don't know about that specifically, but it would not have to be something they made home made.
