always cringed at these "my dog died" post in the past. and I will admit I have been eating crow for 24 hours now. It hurt like hell and doesnt feel much better today. 12-year-old black lab. she tore her acl last year (back left leg) and has been on prednisone for about 2.5 years to help her from breaking out in blisters from head to paw. monday her back right leg finally gave out and she gave me a look I will never forget. I felt lower than the ground, but picked her 90lb arse up and carried her under the patio where she wouldnt overheat. I love and miss you Bella! Thank you for the best childhood a boy could ever ask for!

She isn't in pain anymore.

Your last act was one of mercy.

You're a good man.

Sorry to hear that, it's the worst thing I've ever had to do. Just be glad you were strong enough to let her go and not linger on in pain.

That is incredibly sad, but you did the right thing. She isn't an pain anymore and sounds like you gave her a good life.

Dogs are awesome.

I had to put down my boy Roscoe in Nov of 2020 and still think about that little badass. It's hard to let go of friends but the right thing to do for your dog when they are suffering.

We put our 13 year old chihuahua down to liver cancer a few months ago. I stayed with her to the end even though it hurt.

Been there done that. My tears fell in every grave I had to dig. Live long enough and this will happen over and over. The price that you pay for love. But, you will morn and later get another. The pain is worth the joy and love that you shared. Sorry for your loss.

Go in your notes app and start writing down every good memory you have of her. You’ll forget them if you don’t.

I am thankful for her and you that you were there to move her out of the sun. The rest of your (plural) day was spent doing what had to be. You did well.

When I buried my Yellow Lab (Pete) I told my wife "Never again". Just too much pain. At some point back then, the wife did a pastel of me holding Pete and Fifteen years later, it still feels bad when I walk by and see it on the wall in the back hallway.

Sorry to see your loss.

Sorry about your furry friend.

I've never gotten attached to pets and I'm not sure why.

But they can be family members.

“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion.
There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price.” – Dean Koontz

I have had to do this three times in my life. The fourth dropped dead on a walk. That was painful but less so than having to put the other three down. It's miserable and I feel for you.
