Anybody have cool travel hunting trip(s) lined up for this fall/winter?

I can't go anywhere other than SW LA this year due to familial additions; not complaining. Looking to live vicariously through some of you baws.

Whats on the agenda?

The one I'm really looking forward to is Missouri for 10 days in early November. Will be tent camping. 6 of my old buddies go. We've dispersed across the country for work so we don't see each other often. The comradery is awesome, it's usually a 50/50 mix of hard hunting and hard partying.

Has anybody here done a free range Nilgai hunt in Texas?

I'm going on a cull hunt in east TX first weekend in December. Pretty excited about it. I've only killed two deer in my life, so I'm hoping to come home with a couple for the freezer.

Going to a high fence for axis in Texas. Also joined a hunting club. Excited about both.

Been bow hunting public land in a different Midwest state Nov 1-13 for the last 15 years and never miss a year. I’m trying to kill a P&Y deer on public from each Midwest state. Headed back to Illinois this year and should draw Iowa next year.

I am stuck at home too, me. The last two years I was fortunate enough to be invited as a guest to hunt a large lease in NW Oklahoma. It is well worth heading up there. It is very scenic area. The whole camp killed great bucks this past trip. They said it was the best week they ever had. I was glad to be a part of it. The biggest was 160" 10pt, mine was a 135" 8 and my biggest. Two years ago we all zeroed likely due to weather. I highly recommend hunting out there.

The lease had two sections and two subspecies of whitetails which was pretty cool. The one section that was all bluffs and canyons had deer that looked liked exactly like Texas deer. They were a little less gray with slightly bigger bodies and that's all. They had wide racks with tall tines, not a lot of mass. The other section was lower and not too far from a river. Those deer were pure midwest type, huge skulls, big bodies, thick coats, and tight heavy racks. Makes sense as we were not far from the Kansas border.

I recommend everyone go out of state just so they realize what we could have here with proper malmanagement and less of a kill everything that moves culture.

What part of Missouri? If you don’t mind saying. I’m heading up there too towards the north west. Should be leaving out on October 29th and coming back on November 9th or 10th. I’m excited to be in the Midwest for Halloween for the first time. I usually go a little later, but had some extra vacation this year.
I also took 2 weeks off in December to hunt a couple different wma’s in north Louisiana. I’ll probably be tent camping for those trips.

Mrcoon, I was up there near Alva Oklahoma last year on a guided duck hunting trip and rode around looking at wildlife in my free time and came across an absolute giant whitetail following a doe around. Got some cool video of him. I’ve been thinking about planning a public land trip up there one year. We also had quite a few deer walk by our duck blind on a slow day when we weren’t shooting much. They’re everywhere up there. If anyone is looking to do a guided deer hunt out of state, I recommend phire creek in Oklahoma because I’ve seen some of the deer their clients kill. They brought in a 182” buck one day that another client had grazed with a crossbow a couple days before on her last hunt there. A guy from port Allen ended up killing it.

Same area. I'm driving up on the first and coming back on the 10th. Are you hunting on public?

Hell yea, I'm exploring different Midwest states as well. Only one on the wall so far but only 130 inches. Any P&Y so far in your journey? Bow hunting public in the Midwest just doesn't get old for me

Yeah, this will be my 4th year. I haven’t killed anything worth bragging about yet, but my buddy killed a nice 8 a couple years back that he has on his wall now. He doesn’t get to hunt much so I enjoyed being a part of him killing his biggest deer just as much as I enjoy killing them myself. Last year was slow for us because of the weather. That big cold front hit the day I had to leave, but I went straight to Oklahoma from MO and we had some real good days of duck hunting in that cold weather.

Same here, we've had about 50% success rate every year we have been. I haven't shot anything yet but I've had a lot of opportunities.

It's getting way too pressured and hard to hunt so it's not really worth driving up there anymore.
