Why the hell aren’t local authorities doing more? They should have more life guards and sheriff’s deputies in the water.

More beach fatalities have been reported at Panama City Beach in Florida than any other beach in the U.S. in 2023, data from the National Weather Service showed. According to a report from FOX 35 in Orlando, seven people have died in the area this year, all of which happened in June. Three of them occurred Saturday, officials confirmed.

In the past nine days, 10 people have died along the Emerald Coast because of rip currents, according to the NWS. That includes Panama City Beach, Gulf Shores, Blue Mountain Beach, Fort Morgan and Miramar Beach. The beach death toll in the U.S. is up to 60 as of Saturday. Three people died behind three different resorts in Panama City Beach on the same road on the same day, officials said.

Didn't most or all of these beaches have double red flags up meaning the beach is closed? What the hell is wrong with people?

It’s not smart to get to where you can’t touch the bottom right now.

No, that’s not how it works

When there are double red flags and signs up everywhere explaining to not get in the water - that’s on the person who drowned, not a fricking police officer or life guard.

Had friends staying from Gulf Shores to PCB the last two weeks, and not only are there double red flags, out everywhere, but cops and beach patrol telling people to get out of the water constantly.

Problem is people are stupid.

What else can they do bro? Hell when that kid from Louisiana drowned last year down here they had sheriff deputy helicopter flying back and forth the rest of the summer and dick heads were still in the water on double red. People are frickin stupid

Agreed. You've been told not to go somewhere because it isn't safe. Why should someone else have to then go into the unsafe area where nobody should go because you couldn't tell colors on flags apart?

Actually, that’s exactly how it should work. You have people coming from landlocked states wanting to enjoy the water and not understanding the power of the ocean and riptides and what to do. And this is where local services should step up. I’m sorry but I don’t want to live in a world where everything “is on you”.

What would you like the city to do? We have patrols, we have helicopters, it’s a 500 fine if in the water during double red and dumb mfers still get in the water.

Dude, are they supposed to rope off the frickin ocean? They put up signs, say it on TV and radio and in newspapers, hang flags, pay people to tell you to get out. What more can they do? Does someone help you tie your shoes in the morning?

This is why they should fricking pay attention to the flags, the signs explaining the flags, and the lifeguards.

You're going to be severely disappointed in that case.

Fair. Fair.

Just hate seeing these people who show up down here from Kentucky or wherever in the water knowing it could turn deadly for a family in an instant.
