If so, can someone walk me through it like I’m 5?

Not sure the rules but you may have to get a VPN. Most aren't expensive

Yes, use a VPN and choose a US based location.

You bet. I live in Buenos Aires and I think I have this figured out now.
As far as I can tell, you can't use the ESPN app in a foreign country. I have a VPN (Surfshark) installed on my phone, ipad, and laptop. The ESPN app is smart and knows that you're using a VPN, so all you get is local programming (read: soccer).
On the laptop, I have no problems. I just log into the VPN using a US location and I'm good to go.
Of course, you also have to have a TV provider or ESPN+ subscription to watch, but you already know that.
I hope that helps, and I hope you have a laptop with you.

Will other countries have ESPN available in their bars or resorts?

I have a YouTube TV subscription. So if I download a VPN app on my phone and choose a U.S. location, do you think I will be able to watch on YouTube TV app on my phone?
