anyone ever heard a decent explanation how we got stuck with these retards? I'd rather Mizzou if we had to pick up one of the new boys.

Everyone LSU would consider a bigger rival has someone else as a primary rival with the possible exception of Arkansas. LSU, A&M, Arkansas and Missouri are the last teams standing after everyone else is paired up. LSU-A&M and Arkansas-Missouri is the most logical arrangement of the 4 teams.

We've got a bit of history with them.

We played them 12 times before 1924, then in the 40's we played 9 times, and then twice in the 50's. Then every season from 60 to 75. Then 86 to 95. So basically it was a preferred OOC matchup before they joined the conference. Looking at it, we have played them more often than we have Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Vandy, or Tennessee, despite being in the same conference forever.

The way politics go, I really wouldn't be surprised if LSU was the entity that sponsored and vouched for A&M to be admitted to the conference. Clearly they had ties with Arkansas, but I'd guess a charter member has more pull in these things.
That said, I wonder who made the case to take Missouri.

because we've played each other a TON prior to expansion.
more than we played a lot of SEC.

26 times from 1960 - 1995.
which is more than we played Auburn, Tennessee, and Georgia combined during that same stretch.
