I'm glad I didn't go to Kicking Horse 2 weeks later. It's going to be -33F with a wind chill of -47F up top.
-33F and 100F have almost the same magnitude of change to 32F

We did Brighton on a powder day 2 years ago and it was incredible. Had free refills all day too and the crowds were low. Was a top 5 day for us.

Holiday weekend. Damn near blizzard expected over I70. What could go wrong?

Snow and people packed roads with 60mph winds once you do get on the mountain...I'm staying home. Still havent been up this season.

The groomers today at Bogus Basin looked like your photos and I have carving skis with a sidecut of 78mm.
Guess I need to look for all mountain or POW skis...sheesh. More gear! The powder, bumps, and snowdrifts were pretty rough on my legs do you guys get more floatation on the wider skis?

Way more floation if you have the right ski, the narrowest ski I've ever owned is an 88. Now I have a 102 daily driver and a 114 for powder.

I'm in a powder daze right now, Alta has gotten 35 inches since I got here and another 40 is on the way. Skied Brighton today, the powder was wind packed. Gusts over 50 mph, full on storm skiing. Visibility was tough, especially by the Milly lift but fortunately Brighton has some trees to duck into.
Going back to Alta tomorrow and then Deer Valley on Sunday with half day on Monday before flying out.

Dang Alta. Save some for the rest of us.
Need another 14" for all the terrain to open at telluride.
Come on storms.

Got 11" of snow last night. 3 more today, and another foot tomorrow.
Went from 46" total for the season to over 110" in 3 weeks.
All but Palmyra peak is opening, and they finally started to open the main terrain park!!
I'm getting pumped.

Alta was great yesterday, I took the Cottonwood shuttle which got us to the front of the line once the canyon opened and I got a run down high boy before the crowds made it up the canyon. It is the best $20 you will ever spend if you want to get up to LCC on weekend or holiday. It was absolutely nuking snow when I left, the last two hours were some of the best skiing. The crowds went home early and it was lap after lap of creamy snow.
LCC was interlodged today and maybe again tomorrow, sounds like things are mess with the upside down storm. Over a hundred inches since I got here up at Alta and it is still snowing. Luckily, I snagged a reservation for DV, it was deep almost 2 feet of snow but it was very dense PNW like powder. Got first tracks down Lady Morgan Bowl, my legs though were dead from yesterday so it was a bit of grind but still fun. This has been a crazy trip, I had great year last year but this is like every powder day I had combined into one week.

Was in Kitzbühel all last week and it was incredible. Last year was very little snow, and this year the only runs not open were those they were grooming for races, including Der Streif. Blue bird days everyday but Monday and the snow was really good except for Saturday which started to get a little hard and slick. Can't say enough good things about this place regarding the ski culture. The food and options outnumber the States tremendously, and for those that like apres, there's something for everyone.
Leaving Friday for Jackson Hole. Ready to ride some good snow and grab a few waffles!

Six days of skiing in Utah, today started out rough with wind holds and crazy traffic at Deer Valley. Didn't actually get started until almost noon but I decided to make the most of my last day. Fortunately the crowds don't seem to like wind or delays, I think I got in over 20k of vertical.
Started out at Lady Morgan Bowl, found some great snow way to the skiers left. After that I did a lap down Empire Bowl, lots of bumps but some lines that were still fun. Worked my way back to the other side of the resort and skied the far left of Ruins of Pompeii, lots of great snow to be found there especially if you got into the trees. the upper part of Preservence Bowl also had some nice snow that I lapped. Finished the day the ripping a few groomers. I had more fun today than the huge powder day yesterday. Was a great week in Utah, skied more powder than I could ever imagine and finally got some sunshine today.

I have to get to Europe and ski once, just to experience it all. I would guess you would need at least 10 days to do it right with the travel factored in.

Negative, 7 days is fine.

Last storm cycle brought some resorts to average or above. Alyeska still dominating. El nino hasn't been friendly to the typical favored areas.

CFS long distance model as a train coming in mid February. Hopefully it pans out

Does Brighton just use Solitude's numbers? Obviously they would be right at the top too

They must have not put them on the list, I see they are at 227.

Meh, not my first choice.
But finally breaking out of this zonal AF flow was just what we needed. The winter, until this weekend, had been dominated by an Alaskan troughing regime and low pressures spinning off the left exit of the jet stream.
MJO got into a favorable place to pull the jet stream back, ridge some near Alaska. Couple with a couple of SSWs to help, we finally got to untap the arctic.
Pattern doest look super sexy going into Feb, but I do kidna buy the idea of a late winter snow surge.
