In men's it really seems like the program has been trending down for a while.
They just won the national championship 2 years ago.

Point still stands
What point? The men’s track team has won 2 national titles in the last 32 years and one of them was 2 years ago. They have also finished in the Top 10 every year since 1998. How is that a pattern of the men’s program falling down?

Squirrel has had a bad year as well but not qualifying either. I believe he's been injured.
He has been injured all season

Now do the women…

That wasn’t what he said. He singled out the men’s team. I agree that the trajectory of the women’s team is more problematic, but that wasn’t what he was arguing. Even there, only a few programs have had more sustained success than LSU in the decade since the women last won the title. Shaver is no Pat Henry, but neither is Pat Henry any more.

It helps that schools like Arkansas/Texas A&M will actually shell out the funds to upgrade facilities and bring in a wider pool of recruits. Hopefully whenever Shaver retires in the near future we can see a shift within LSU's administration to bring in a better support structure. For too long we've relied on the past success of LSU T&F to help keep the team competitive.

Forgive my ignorance, but is the women's team a contender?

Our indoor and outdoor facilities are shite.

I support everything LSU but I'd much rather keep Football/Basketball/Baseball elite and do your best with other sports.

I understand your sentiment; however, LSU $$$ can't compete with the Walton's/Jerry Jones and Texas Big Oil. LSU has money but it's not even close to ARK and A&M. PMAC definitely needs to be priority #1 (M & W BB and Gymnastics, followed by upgrades to Bernie Moore T&F. The Natatorium is 40 yrs old and is arguably one of the worst facilities in the SEC.

Yeah, shaver has had a lot of great moments at the university, but I want new facilities and a new era.
LSU has to change its identity a bit. Need to adopt a model like Georgia where they can win if all with just a few multi event athletes.
What Texas is doing with Floreal is peak pat henry stuff with their sprints, but I’m going to safely assume they have a bigger budget

Texas is about to blow everyone away tomorrow night. Our women's short sprints shat the bed. We will be lucky to win any events outside of the 800m. Michaela Rose WILL set a collegiate record tomorrow night.

LSU has money hidden around but the alumni don't want to spend on the school. It only cost $16 million for Arkansas to build a BRAND NEW outdoor track and field with their own rehab center/weight room/locker room/offices. Indoor facility is likely never going to happen because Carl Maddox hasn't been destroyed by a hurricane and never will be.

Build a legitimate practice facility instead of this BS add on we currently have and you don't need to change the PMAC. I don't understand what people think is actually bad about the PMAC. It fills out for every gymnastics event. Could the facility be nicer and better? Yeah, but it works. It's not like Alex Box which could use better seating all around with new bullpens and better outfield seating. The PMAC works fine.

The Natatorium is
a pool that doesn't really need a new facility. They can updated the inside and be fine. It's not an issue of space. But yes, they are well overdue for a makeover.

It isn’t problematic. It is HORRIBLE and since he has accountability he has regressed the LSU T&F program and SHAMED it with the one title that was stripped. Should have been fired years ago.
Let’s get real, Boo brought that men’s title. few years ago with his coaching of coaches and training those athletes.

That’s certainly a relative term. Compared to 1987-1997, the performance of any program would seem horrible. Since 2014, 5 schools have won national titles in women’s outdoor track. Of those schools, Oregon hasn’t finished in the Top 10 since 2019, A&M hasn’t won the title since 2014, Florida’s win last year was their first Top 5 finish since 2018 and Arkansas’s title in 2019 was their only Top 5 finish since 2016. The degree of achievement and consistency you seem to expect of the LSU women may be higher than what any program is doing right now with the possible exception of USC. LSU’s women have still finished Top 5 in 2 of the last 3 seasons and Top 6 in 14 of the last 16 years. That’s not “horrible”.

Yeah, the dude needs to get a grip on the hyperbole around Shaver being terrible.
Only thing I agree with him is how big of a blow it was to lose Boo Shexnyder. Our jumps program has returned to mediocrity under Todd Lane, which is the strength program Boo is best known for. The sprints side has still put up nice numbers, but the women have been injury plagued.
without a strong jumps program to go along with sprints, LSU is always going to hover around the 3-8 ranking, which is still pretty fricking good.

Did Shaver steal your girl back in the day or something?
You are unhinged and should get a grip.

As it stands, LSU can likely finish in 3rd unless Arizona State wins the 4x400m. They’re a solid lock for the bronze team trophy right now. ASU had 3 guys in the 400m but they will have had a decent amount of rest between then and the final event.

Stanford just jumped LSU to claim 3rd
