I’m not complaining. Why would you misrepresent my post?? [rhetorical question - we already know the answer]
So then you freely admit that there is a “reason” for presenting a distorted view of reality…just like the Perry Mason show did. Thanks for making my point for me.

I didn’t know about it
Might be due to the lack of oppressed peoples involved?

When I saw the ratings for the second season, I knew it wasn't coming back.
That's unfortunate. Was a solid show.

I can think of a number of marketing and P.R. reasons for them to do this (as can anyone), but the most obvious reason is that there are still people complaining about interracial marriages on social media and movie message boards.
Noticing consistent mistruths about reality being represented over and over again in a purposeful way to try and shape public opinion isn’t complaining about interracial marriages on a movie message board.
IDGAF about interracial marriage. Go for it. Make beautiful biracial angel babies. I love it.
But don’t tell me that the norm in society like having a gay person in every story line or husbands being the bumbling idiot in most families or every other marriage being interracial

The same reason that commercials show distorted realities where introducing a brand of soda turns a quiet gathering into an insane party, or a distorted reality where every family associated with a product is incredibly happy, or a distorted reality where every race, gender, and age group is shown enjoying a product.
So then you freely admit that there is a “reason” for presenting a distorted view of reality

Still not sure why interracial couples were brought into a thread about Perry Mason anyway. I guess he banged that Mexican woman in Season 1 and that sent off a warning flare.

This was not a "woke" series in any way; really weird the way this thread went off the rails. The series kind of reminds me of Boardwalk Empire, and I thought i would like it but it just didn't click for me. The production values looked great (like Boardwalk) but were probably very expensive.

If Kyrie Irving says the earth is flat in one off interview, it doesn't matter nor does it affect my life. Let Kyrie be Kyrie.
If every commercial and tv show talks about the earth being flat, it becomes noticeable that there's something afoot and maybe an agenda being pushed.
it's a dumb argument and realize it's rife with fallacies. you and i have interacted enough to know that i'm not a rage poster about culture war bullshite. i have no idea why people post the things they do, but it's ok to admit that commercials are painting an inaccurate picture of reality.

Please explain to the great unwashed the legitimate reason for the producers of Perry Mason to distort reality? Was the show not intended to be realistic and true to the period? Or only for some things but not other

You do realize Perry Mason isn’t a “real” person right?
And the characters were very much realistic for the time. What wasn’t realistic?

I agree. Never said it was “woke” but I guess that depends on your definition of that word.
My main point is that the producers took a well known fictional story and completely remade it in an extremely diverse manner that doesn’t realistically represent the legal landscape of LA in the 1930s. They obviously did it for a reason. Just curious why producers felt a need to do it. [or rather to get the deniers to admit what is clearly going on]
I thought the show was trying to evoke a Chinatown era LA atmosphere. It had a lot of potential but the story just wasn’t compelling. I’m not really commenting directly about the diversity of the cast etc other than perhaps that the relentless focus on Paul’s home life and Della’s relationship and Perry’s kid (character development) went overboard and meandered too far away from the real murder mystery/courtroom drama

I didn’t say that the characters weren’t realistic. But do you really think that all of these characters would realistically intersect and interact like this show depicted in 1930s LA?
Again, same concept as when I see a commercial with an 80 y/o Eskimo woman in bed with her Dinka tribesman husband …I guess it’s possible that you could find that pairing somewhere in real life , but probably not without looking really hard…

A liberal defense attorney who focuses on the plight of those who can't defend themselves (and can't pay well) would attract a diverse group of outsiders. And in 1930's Los Angeles, blacks, Asians, and gays were all right there in the mix. You could have a good show about straight white guys in the '30's, but it wouldn't delve as well into the worlds that this series featured so well.

Tell me you haven't seen the new version of Perry Mason without telling me you haven't seen it.
Maybe that's why it was cancelled...
Most people probably don't want to see a 1930s style law drama.

Regardless if that's supposed to be some played out storyline.
The played out storyline is the titular main character becomes basically a bystander in his own show, while the perfect female (I assume female though I’m not a biologist) #2 has all the answers and never fails or makes mistakes aka character growth. It’s actually refreshing to see happily married loving couples, black or white, but if the only stable couples are either black or gay , it’s clearly by design, and it’s not about this one show, we don’t live in a vacuum.

Alleged? One of them was the bad guy and convicted as such.
SPOILERS BELOW
He was the killer but not the “bad guy”. He was shown as a sympathetic downtrodden hard working immigrant. Forced to live in a shantytown after his apartment was burned down the “victim” with the help of the police, a fire that severely scarred his brother who was trying to rescue someone (their sister? I forget). So the “victim” could build a baseball stadium (please note it is true that many poor/minority neighborhoods were destroyed to build highways and other developments). He ultimately takes a plea sacrificing himself so is talented young brother can go to art school and have a future.
Meanwhile the “victim” is proven to be pure scum, aside from the destruction of a neighborhood to make his own mark, he cheats on his wife and chokes his lovers while screwing them to the point one was left an invalid because the oxygen to her brain was cut off too long, which was covered up with the help of her brother to protect political interests.
The only surprise is that the real bad guy turned out to be a woman

Practically every commercial today has an interracial couple. Hopefully we can all agree that this is WAYYYYY over-represented compared to real life. These commercials present interracial couples in a "responsible and entertaining way that never felt preachy or demeaning". But isn't it fair to ask why it is suddenly being done constantly when it is so far from reality? Same thing for this show...it was set up this way intentionally, and its absurd to deny it
Interracial couples make up almost 20% of all new marriages. It's a pretty normal, every day thing. Deal with it.

I always love response ls like this, “deal with it” indicates what you’re really about is trying to own the “cons”. Rubbing it in the face of people you don’t like, and that’s the problem. It’s about creating opportunities or ending oppression it’s purely political. That’s why the stories are uninteresting and terrible it’s box checking, nothing more, petty attempts at “revenge”

I'm not rubbing anyone's face in anything, nor am I trying to own conservatives. I am a conservative. My point is that interracial couples make up almost 20% of couples in the United States. Seeing them in commercials isn't a real issue, it's a normal part of our society.

I believe that you are supposed to yell MELT! or something along those lines. Although the response is curious because there is nothing in any of my prior posts indicating that I have any objection to actual interracial marriages.

Nice link. But even if that number is an accurate and credible statistic, it is still WAYYYY below the representation on commercials...which was the original point to illustrate that, like the producers of Perry Mason, they intentionally create an absurd version of "reality".
You just apparently can't bring yourself to admit it, let alone be honest about why it is being done.
