Kakhovka Dam the most geographically important Dam in Ukraine was just blown up in the last few hours. Both sides are pointing fingers at who is to blame. Major flooding will occur downstream, and a major ecological disaster is about to unfold, along with hundreds of thousands potential civilian deaths. Major escalation in the war.

Besides downstream flooding, what are the other implications?

Spoiler: It was Ukraine. They've done it in the past:

Ukraine blew up a dam to stop the Russian advance on Kyiv, some homes remain flooded
May 29 (Reuters) - Some 50 homes in the village of Demydiv remain partially submerged months after a dam was destroyed and the area flooded to stop Russian troops from advancing on Ukraine capital Kyiv, regional governor Oleksiy Kuleba said late on Saturday.
The Ukrainian military blew up a dam on the river Irpin in February, sending water surging into the village and thousands of acres around it, flooding houses and fields, but preventing Russian tanks from reaching the capital city.

Doesn’t this river supply all the fresh water irrigation to Russian controlled agriculture fields in Crimea?

Blowing up the Kakhovka Dam is an ecological and economic catastrophe as it not only floods towns and cities south of the dam, including Kherson, but threatens the drinking water for hundreds of thousands, agricultural production, and the safety of Europe's largest nuclear plant.

Why didn't Jack get on the raft with Rose? There was plenty of room.

For those who still have doubts it was done by the Ukrainians: The Ukrainians were telling The Washington Post back in December about their plans to blow it up:

Russia had to arm and feed its forces via three crossings: the Antonovsky Bridge, the Antonovsky railway bridge and the Nova Kakhovka dam, part of a hydroelectric facility with a road running on top of it.
The two bridges were targeted with U.S.-supplied M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems — or HIMARS launchers, which have a range of 50 miles — and were quickly rendered impassable.
“There were moments when we turned off their supply lines completely, and they still managed to build crossings,” Kovalchuk said. “They managed to replenish ammunition. … It was very difficult.”
Kovalchuk considered flooding the river. The Ukrainians, he said, even conducted a test strike with a HIMARS launcher on one of the floodgates at the Nova Kakhovka dam, making three holes in the metal to see if the Dnieper’s water could be raised enough to stymie Russian crossings but not flood nearby villages.
The test was a success, Kovalchuk said, but the step remained a last resort. He held off.
