Just got a $6,684 bill for a coronary calcium test

I was having some PVCs, so my cardiologist sent me for a calcium CT.
To my understanding, the bill is usually around $80.
The palps had stopped, but I think they may be returning.
Has anyone dealt with anything similar?

Don't pay the bill and let your heart take care of the rest

They were testing to see how good your heart was when you opened it.

Its a $150ish dollar test cash, insurance prices are lower and some hospitals will list the price sky high to screw people, like $400 though, not $6k.
Ask for an itemized bill. It is often not covered by insurance.

When I was 16, I had a bad tummy ache. Thought it could be a ruptured appendix or spleen. Turned out I had not took a poop for about a week. Doctor showed the X-ray of all the crap in me.
God Speed.
God Speed.

I actually have a lot of experience in this (professionally, not personally), so I actually might be able to give some advice.
A few questions:
Do you have insurance? If not, did they apprise you of your right to a Good Faith Estimate and when did you schedule this visit (or was it an emergency visit)?
If insured, was the facility in-network and are you being billed by an out-of-network provider? Is there a difference in pricing between the medical bill and your EOB?

A CCT for PVCs?? Thats insane. Essentially the only use a CCT is for is if your 10 year CV risk score places you in the intermediate risk score. A significantly abnormal CCT score risk stratifies you into a high risk group which impacts medical therapy intensity. CCT has no bearing on PVC treatment.

Imaging is probably the most marked up medical procedure on the planet. Docs often don't know what their "contractually preferred" providers charge. DVT ultrasound? $1300 at Memorial Hermann in June. Same thing in October $2200. Both after submitting insurance, checking deductibles, and paying up front $200-300 before service. Getting it done at GreenImaging dot com, $210, all in, up front. Once I told my doc she asked for the website I used to find it.
$6k, they're most certainly screwing you through mis-application of ICD-10 codes or something, or the DR order didn't include something that they needed to make it a justifiable cost.
I'd suggest going back to the cardiologist and explaining what happened when they read you the results. And do not pay. I've gotten MRIs that cost 1/3 of that (out of pocket), it is bullshite.
Just don't pay until they send you to collections, and offer to pay them $200.

I do have insurance.
The cardiologist is in network.
I work for a major health insurer.

I am having one later this month for $150. That’s insane.

Strange. I’m trying to determine if your case would be eligible under the NSA for a balance billing complaint.
