Les Miles Salary Question

I know his contract states something about making at least the third most in the SEC after winning the national championship...
With Tennessee fixin to unload probably an unprecedented amount of cash for a new coach, will LSU have to increase Les' pay to stay within contract boundaries?

UT just paid a coach $9 million because he lost to Miles.
After losing the SEC title game, Fulmer got a new deal with a $6 million buyout, while getting paid close to $3 Million a year. You can't beat that, when you only last 9 games.

a good career path these days seems to be to bust arse and get to a title game or ahve a few good seasons... get a great new contract then let the program slide off... get fired and collect your money.
see Bowden, Fulmer...

Pretty sure this is the case for just winning the SEC.
Winning the title makes him the highest paid in the SEC (if not the country if I remember the contract right).
But it isn't a permament situation. It is a one off flash of salary adjustment based off of what schools are paying coaches at that particular point in time. If he wants to readjust his pay again, it would have to win the SEC/national title again.

Posted on 11/19/08 at 3:37 pm to killercoconut

Delicious irony.
What's even more ironic is Saban makes a 150k bonus for the SEC champ game and another 450k for the NC.

is that for winning those games? or just getting to them?

Miles will earn at least $3.75 million plus $1,000 a year in a deal that nudges him ahead of Alabama coach Nick Saban and makes Miles one of the nation's top-paid college football coaches. Miles also is eligible to receive more money each year, depending on the team's performance on the field and in the classroom.

But also note that the school itself only pays Miles a base of $300K a year. The rest comes from the athletic department, promotional deals, etc.

I thought that was a good question, so I found out...
75k for playing in the SECCG or 125k for winning.
65k for any old bowl game
or
90k for Chick-Fil-A, Cotton, Outback, or Capital One bowls
or
125k for a BCS game not designated the NC game
or
200k for the NC game
or
400k for winning the NC game
Turns out my #s were a little off to begin with, but the point is still valid.

Most coaches (including Les) have these bonuses built into their contracts, in addition to graduation rate clauses, etc.

For that kind of money he should be hiring top of the line DCs instead of unqualified buddies to run the D
