Isla Mujeres $ Question

Next year is my wife (no pics) and I’s 5 year anniversary. I need some help estimating how much we would spend on food and drinks for 5 days? Assuming we would eat all 3 meals out and about?
Don’t need an exact number but just an estimation from you professional isla’s!

Just got back, if you want nice then prices are the same as in the US from what we saw. If you plan to drink alcohol then I'd plan a minimum $100 pp per day. You can certainly go less expensive if you seek out the smaller out of the way places but that would be an good average to figure. Also, get Pesos, they go further than dollars or credit cards.

Just to add that if you avoid the shitty beach restaurants at Playa Norte you can spend a good bit less than $100 pp per day. A lobster burrito at Dopi's on Hidalgo is $11 and Corona are generally $2-3. Eat at Bastos mid island (taxi driver will know where it is) and two people can eat for $30-35 ande have a great meal. Get the arecherra steak there. It's delicious but be warned it is closed on Thursday.

Curious when the last time you were there, prices are up across the island 25 to 30% since January it seems. We only ate a couple times on the North End and they were in small places like Rubens for breakfast. We were in the Colonias and south 90% of the time. Even the small hole in the wall taco places were 40 pesos for tacos, last year they 18 to 20. The dollar is way off as well so there's that. A couple other suggestions for the OP, Mango Cafe or Rubens for Breakfast, Fuego de Mar for dinner, Oscar's thin cheese pizza, nachos and beer on the deck or in the pool at Kin Ha. No expert on IM for sure but enjoyed all of the places above just last week.

Right before Covid so I understand that prices have escalated but $100 a person minimum on Isla is absolutely not necessary unless you’re eating at the more expensive eateries which is why I mentioned the overpriced beachside places on Playa Norte.
I'll add IMO.

How is the Sargassum in July? We were looking at Izla for July 4th week. I think that side is protected from the flow of the grass. Is that the setup I want to take a 5 yo, 1yo, and separate room for nanny?

Best way to travel with really young kids.

Have you thought about doing an all inclusive? Wife and I did Excellence Playa Mujeres a few years ago and spent a day on the island

I am not an all inclusive snob at all. I've always seen Excellence Playa Mujeres highly regarded.

we went not too long ago, used amex all over in the restaurants and beach clubs, no problem
also spent about 9000 pesos ($500) for four people over 4 days for trinkets, street food, cabs, tips, etc
we rented a golf cart, but still used the red taxis occasionally
we rented a house with a live in housekeeper that had her own quarters, we bought groceries, she cooked breakfast everyday
ETA the seaweed wasnt a problem, the strong currents take it around the island. cancun, tulum and playa del carmen were hammered by seaweed though

Which part of the island is best?

For? Playa Norte has the most access to the beach and restaurants. You can rent a golf cart for a day and tool around the island. Personally if you stay up north I'd only do one or two at the most daily rentals because there is so much that is within walking distance there.
