Meh...parents have lost their fricking minds when it comes to kids in sports. Everyone chasing athletic scholarship dollars and sports glory. Parent are the reason there's such a thing as travel ball.

it's pretty disgusting for all of the obvious reasons but the glaring one to me is that it's a very selfish absorption, being involved in a "travel" sport completely dominates the family for whatever the length of the season, travel ball and associated activities dictates all of the family's time and plans, including, and especially, other kids in the family that don't share that interest

100% this.

Parents living vicariously through their kids is the absolute worst.

Also, everything parents are being told is that if you don't go the travel ball route, good luck in getting your kid on a high school team. This is all we heard when my son was younger.

The whole scholarship thing seems like a cop out for most parents because they don’t want to just admit they are living through their kids. I’ll just keep putting in my kids 529 and using other avenues to save. If he wants to play ball it will be his choice and if he isn’t having fun it will be his choice to quit playing. Parents nowadays are ridiculous when it comes to sports.

Social media is full of parents who can’t wait to brag about Brayden or Jayden’s weekend tournament.

I have a buddy that has 2 girls in travel softball for this very reason. I pissed him off recently when I told him if he would put the 20K a year in a 529 for college he would be better off. He is convinced travel ball is the road to sports glory.
