For long term reliability, which would you pick between an electric 40V Ryobi mower versus a Honda HRX gas powered cutting approximately 1/3 to 1/2 an acre?

I’d have a difficult time picking the electric. Maybe I’m just a hard headed CoonAss, but the only cordless, electric piece of yard equipment I’d consider is a blower for my wife to use on my patio…

Long term reliability that battery is going to fail well before the Honda engine.

Absolutely gas powered Honda. Batteries fail and then you have to buy a new lawn mower because they don't make the battery anymore.

Get the gas. Change the oil in it once a year. It’ll do you well for a long time.

I have a Honda HRN and no complaints. I’ve changed oil and blades once and plan to do so each year. Has only cost me about 2.5/3 gallons in gas since I bought it April of last year. Only thing I like better about the electric mowers is you can store them upright.

How much land area we talkin'?
If under 1/2 acre go battery but do not get less than 60V.
Greenworks has steel decks and 25% off this weekend. If you can wait until Memorial Day weekend I'm confident it will be more off.

I’m asking simply because I don’t know, but would an electric push mower do that size lot in one charge?

Thanks for all the replies so far.

Yes, leaning towards the gas (Honda) for sure. Just wanted some real world experience as I know battery can be more convenient, at least in the short term.

The 40V Ryobi claims it can do 3/4 acre on one charge.

Isn’t Honda getting out of the push mower business?

Troll post.

Definitely not.

Again, I don't know enough about the reliability of these electric self propelled mowers in the long term compared to gas. I was just looking for some real word feedback for those that may have experienced using both.

My neighbor has a dewalt electric and he can’t mow his yard on one charge. It’s around 1/3 acre.

His grass is bermuda.
Would like to see the criteria that was used to get the up to 3/4 acre in a full charge.

For long term reliability assuming proper maintenance, gas is going to be the better bet.

Of course I have had a ryobi mower for over 5 years with no significant noticeable degradation of my battery. Of course I have a lot of battery tools and batteries that are interchangeable.

For me the convenience of not having to do maintenance, the ability to not worry about it not starting on the first "pull", and the fact that my garage doesn't smell like Gas are all the reasons I prefer my electric lawn equipment compared to gas.

Although frequently cited-Reliability and power concerns are not issues for me. I've personally never had power issues cutting my lawn - I don't mow a pasture and out of the variety of lawn equipement that I do have i havent had any failed electric lawn equipment personally.

I’m on my second year with the rhino 40v. Love it so far. I’ve got a 1/3 acre lot. Could probably cut 1/2 acre on one charge but that would be about it. I also have the 40v weed eater and blower so I have 4 batteries total.

I did have one bad battery after a month but they warrantied it.

It’s quiet, lightweight, and cuts great.

My yard is a mix of Bermuda and zoysia

All I can offer is my neighbor had an electric and he just went and got a gas. His lot is not that big to cut but he said he could not complete it in one cutting with the electric.
