Only pitcher in MLB history to have a Cy Young, 200 plus-wins, 3+ World Series titles, and an MVP.

Wasn’t he in a situation where he was going to a team that already had dominant pitching and the commissioner blocked it because he deemed it would be unfair to the rest of the league?

Favorite Oakland A of all-time. Loved watching him strike guys out.

From his 3rd season, when he had over 300 SO's, he struck out at least 100 guys in 13 of 15 seasons.

He was a workhorse who averaged 33 starts & 233 innings pitched per season.

Great career!

If true, it sounds like he got the CP3 treatment.

Yeah, it happened with commissioner Kuhn.

"The deal, he said, could affect the competitive balance in the National League West “materially and adversely” and “would also worsen the competitive position of the Oakland club by making this weak team even weaker.”

If Cincinnati would send more players to the A's, Kuhn reasoned, the problem of competitive balance might not exist. However, the Reds want to bolster their pitching staff without disturbing a starting lineup that has star at almost every position."

I loved that big, beautiful, old-school wind-up, especially in those green and gold uniforms.

As a lil' kid in the mid 1970s..

I had two walls full of big posters..

One for Rock bands like KISS, Led Zep, The Who,etc..

The other for Sports, with Kareem Skyhooking, Lefty Carlton's big leg kick, Mike Schmidt cranking one, and Vida Blue's beautiful looping Lefthanded wind up!
