The overall rufous pattern, especially in the tail, and the fact that the wings appear to be more pointed would lead me to the same ID.

Hard to say for sure from those pictures, but chuck-will's-widow seems to be the right call here.

Odd group of birds these nightjars are. One common name that appears in some field guides for the family is "goatsucker", so named because of an ancient belief that they sucked milk from goats.

Old people come up with weird shite sometimes.

Googled for the birds call and I always thought that was a whippoorwill but was wrong.

Heard some just last week in the Mandeville area. So now I know.
