Why is the left for censorship & opposed to free speech?

For years I've assumed it's strategy. IE, the USSR knew it was necessary to keep the masses in line.
But lately I've been thinking that it originates from personal psychology.
I've had a lot of IRL discussions with intelligent leftists. When I explain why their opinion about 'x' contradicts their opinion about 'z' they become very uncomfortable and decide that the discussion is over. What option do they have?
Easy: They could say 'Hmmm, I've never thought about that. You may be right.'
But they don't because people are naturally protective of their foundational value system. That which gives them a purpose and comfort. So, they opt to avoid other opinions. And the easiest way to avoid unsettling opinions is censorship and restrictions on free speech.
Thoughts?

The right is just as censorship happy. Try speaking about the differences in racial groups.

To me it seems as though the right is far more willing to speak freely and honestly about race crimes as opposed to the left.

I think what you posted is a large portion or why they hate free speech. When you can’t defend your positions, or you realize you have contradictory opinions based on political leanings, the easiest thing to do is shut up the opposition.

Left wants to censor conservatives because they tell the truth mostly. If they think the conservatives lie like they say then they wouldn't have to continue lying about it. You could see the results of the lib lie but libs haven't shown us the conservative lies.

Because conservatism HAS TO be colorblind.
IQ differences, rates of criminality, etc can't be the result of biology. It MUST be due to government policy. That's literally conservative ideology. And it's stupid.
