you likely meant to ask “how did she escape the death penalty”? bc she was indicted by a grand jury on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter, and providing false information to law enforcement. pretty sure she was convicted of lying to the police, credited with time served, and released like a week after the verdict was announced.

Overzealous prosecution went for charges that they couldn’t prove without a reasonable doubt. If they had prosecuted her on a lesser charge, she would likely be behind bars today.
