im not worried about anything. i commend you for eating completely clean and cutting out preservatives. Certainly they arent good for us. If you have your health, diet and training that dialed in that you have to cut out preservatives to reach goals....more power to you brother!!

My point was though that this is a case of majoring in the minors for 99.999999% of americans. I have fat fricks tell me everyday at work..."those energy drinks are gonna kill you" all while they walk around 35+ BMI shoveling chilli dogs from the vending machine down thier throat every day at lunch.

i think many times on this board we get way too caught up on what is optimal and forget that sometimes pratical is better and that little things like preservatives matter for health to about .001% of the population.

less than 10% of the population does ANY form of resistance training. 42% of america is obese, 50% of black americans are obese, nearly 50% of americans have high blood pressure, over 70% of america is either overweight or obese......so popping a zero calorie energy drink that will prolly cause them to eat less....prolly not an issue SO LONG as they can handle the caffeine content. monster only has little over 100mg which isnt much more than coffee, some though like bang and reign have 300mg which is more than most can handle.

point is, in the grand scheme, worrying about preservatives is big time big time majoring in the minors.

Nothing wrong with caffeine. All the statistics you quoted are because of all the awful shite we have in our food in America that is banned in every other developed country. These things are not 'good' for you. They aren't 'harmless'. The same people that tell you things like bht, artificial flavors, preservatives, emulsifiers, sweeteners, seed oils, artificial colors, etc. are perfectly ok for you will tell you that eating meat is bad for you and destroying the 'environment'. Its lunacy. All these things are especially bad for children which causes a ton of problems as they get older if they keep ingesting all this stuff. You won't find studies in the US about this because if they did they would be indicting themselves to how they are making hoards of Americans extremely unhealthy by eating and drinking all these chemicals. If I didn't know any better its like that is what our government wants - a bunch of lazy unhealthy people who are on tons of prescription medications. Don't believe me? Look at the current war on meat and how they will do everything in their power to convince you a bowl of Lucky Charms is 'healthier' for you than a New York Strip steak or a third pound of grass fed beef or 5 scrambled eggs.

I get what you are saying but it isn't just about 'calories' it is about the quality of those calories and how those calories make your body react to ingesting them.

Calorie is a measure of energy. I'd like you to cite some studies outside the US on your understanding of what you said. I'm open to changing my mind.

If you cite a study that shows megadosing cells and a spike happens, I'm going to laugh at you.

All calories are the same by definition, but they are not all the same as far as how your body responds to them. The response is what I am talking about. Eating 300 'calories' of Lucky Charms is going to have a significantly different response in your body than 300 'calories' of even the lowest quality ground beef. Do you understand this?

Eating the Lucky Charms is going to have a difference than ground beef. The calories are neutral to what is going on. Do you understand this?

When someone says 300 calories of Lucky Charms, what is actually meant is it produces 300 calories to heat that amount of Lucky Charms.

quote:

A sample of the food is placed in an insulated, oxygen-filled chamber that is surrounded by water. This chamber is called a bomb calorimeter. The sample is burned completely. The heat from the burning increases the temperature of the water, which is measured and which indicates the number of calories in the food.

Your body reacts differently to various calorie-containing foods. Why do you think I put 'calories' in quotes? The view that calories are calories regardless of their source has been shown to be outdated.

ok adding ronricks to the list of people who know shite about nutrition....also to the top of the list of people who have no clue about biological funcitions and thermodynamics

it absolutely is about calories in and calories out. how many fricking studies have to be done for your kind to just admit that?

and if its not calories then why the success of GLP-1 drugs? all it does is make one eat less through slowing gastric emptying and control of insulin induced hunger pains.......why does it work so well if calories dont matter? yet its working for all those people who said...."i have such and such disorder" why is that?

i agree about the government being stupid as frick, about the war on meat and americans being unhealthy....but its not because of chemicals or preservatives....its because they eat too fricking much and move too little.

we have covered thermic effect of food thousand times on here and dietary induced thermogensis. trust me we understand it, its you who doesnt

why do you think we always say calories and protein are all that matter until you get below 12% bodyfat?

because that is all that really matters as far as results go until 10-12% bf.

after you have reached protein goal, really doesnt matter what you eat to make up the rest of the calories unless oyu just eat more protein.

the DET from fat and carbs are not that much different. not enough to worry about.

go look at martin berkhams work and Layne nortons work and got read all of alan argons research reviews....got about 100 different studies they have reviewed between the 3 that actually show this.

stop listening to quackes like ALTA

Like I said, keep ingesting a shite ton of fake chemicals, additives, preservatives, emulsifiers etc. all because it is 'zero calorie' and because our Federal Government (who can't even do something as simple as delivering a letter to my house in an efficient manner) tells you it is 'ok'.

wait so you think layne is wrong?

no offense but you cant provide any science, not one shred of evidence, to prove your points. its all opinion that you claim is common sense....but you are wrong, period and i have dozens of studies proving it.

i dont think ron is a moron....just way way too caught up in small details that dont matter. internet is full of influencers that spit these bullshite lies out over and over and many fall for it. start believing those little things actually matter

and they may....for 0.0001% of the population who is getting ready to step on stage.
