Maybe it's semantics, or maybe I'm not looking in the right direction, but I don't think a brick mailbox is "illegal." It does appear that the homeowners insurance can be held liable if an injury or worse occurs because of an incident though. My house and whole block is brick mailboxes that were built by the original builders to match each home. I would have to believe permits would be denied and brick mailboxes would be forced to be torn down and homeowners subject to fines if they were illegal.

It looks like some states do have statutes barring them, but I didn't see any such code for Louisiana. I don't see any suit being successful, given that parking on the street and other immovable objects are often near roadways. If someone leaves the road and hits your house, that won't move either. A brick mailbox, while sturdy, certainly won't stop a car, either. I say build away.
