I think Shores would make a good closer. Edwards is great in relief or even as a mid-week starter

Hell yeah, I just think Jay didn’t like the Mojo when Ack was in there.
Good call obviously.
Remember that’s the shite Paul used to drive us crazy over.

Leave Edwards where he is. He can still throw Sunday. He’s plan B for any starter

They can't see it because they are results oriented. Edwards finished this game out, so he is the hero today. I was nervous going into the 9th, with that 3 run lead, and it is because Edwards is not a closer. I have no clue how that first ball stayed in the park, and Tennessee smashed him. They just couldn't manage 3 runs with only 3 outs. The fact that he is maybe our best BP option is a concern right now, not a reason to celebrate.

Baseball is a confidence and skill game. Edward’s obviously increased his skill level and throws all kind of shite at Ya and has 96 Mph fastbal which seems slow now because of Skenes but is not. Lol
Edward seems to have and attitude that plays into the role. Just MO

Edwards offspeed has been what has carried him. He can run it up to 96, but he doesn't sit there. With a 93 mph fastball, your offspeed needs to be solid (and his has). I'm not trying to knock him at all. He has been our best option out of the pen, on a team that desperately needs it. You can't just look at this end result and ignore everything else though. He got smashed, and good teams will hit him from time to time. The same people who are beating their chest for Edwards were also telling us how key Money and Hellmers could be for this team.

No it won't. My expectations this season are higher than they have ever been. I just see the one, and only, weakness this team has. Those concerns weren't put to rest for me tonight.

The end score of this game is mostly meaningless. I believe UT is the second best team in the nation, and we showed tonight we can go toe to toe with the best they have. This team will be fine. I just want to sure up the weakness. Tonight didn't do that for me, but one individual night never will

Nah, both of those guys have shown they can be solid pitching multiple innings of relief and in high-leverage situations and we are in short supply of that right now.

We don't have (and likely never will) have a "closer."

If this was happening on a consistent basis then.........yeah. But Edwards for the most part has not been hit hard and Tennessee is a good team despite their hitting numbers so far. I dont think he is a closer but hes a good relief pither no doubt.

Agreed. He's been great. But just like Little, he is prone to get hit around from time to time. We have seen it with Little already. Luckily we didn't see it with Edwards yet.

Not sure I would compare Hellmers or Money stuff to what we are seeing from Edwards lately.

6, 7, 8th inning relief is more important than closer.

Edwards has always been that guy. JJ is hoping to use him in a much broader role. Someone else needs to step up to really lock teams down.

Well we are now what halfway through the season having a closer that can go out there that doesn’t give up Homers and lose leads.
I know Edward’s got hit hard but hey that was a pressure situation and he passed a major test against a major threat and opponent.
Sometimes you go from there, because that’s how it all starts.
Allowing his aggressive attitude to play in can make him even better.

First pitch he comes in with a full count and runners on so he has to leave it in the zone. It’s up and the guy hits a routine fly ball. Next 2 are routine grounders, one’s an error the other a seeing eye through double play depth. The last out was probably hit the best but those balls didn’t appear to have a lot of jump to them, they looked heavy to me. The situation he was in forced him to leave balls in the zone against good hitters and he got it done anyway. Doesn’t matter if it’s multiple innings or the 9th he’s our best option to close games. Old school closers used to go 2-3 innings so that label doesn’t mean we can’t use him earlier than the 9th.
