Going at the end of May. First time visiting the area. Any good recommendations on places to see, things to do, places to eat etc?

Be prepared for traffic. I stay over in Maggie Valley, NC. Waynesboro and Cherokee, NC are nice towns. Biltmore in Asheville is good for first timers. Clingman’s Dome if you like to hike. Dollywood is heavily packed.

It is very touristy and you have to buy a permit to park in the National Park. My kids really liked the mountain coasters. There are many easy hikes to waterfalls in the NP. You can also go rafting. Dollywood is a good amusement park that is better than most 6 flags. Dolly Parton's stampede dinner show is spectacular and the food is pretty good .

Not sure if you are going to have family with you, but my kids (10 / 11 at the time) had a lot of fun at Parrot Mountain and Gardens. Not a huge place but a lot of birds to look at/feed/hold/buy if you want.

I wouldn't put this on the top 5 list but if you have an afternoon, it's worth a look.

Asheville is a time commitment for a day especially with kids.

The Alpine Coasters are good. River Rafting in tubes is fun.

Pancake Pantry in Gatlinburg, Donut Friar in Gatlinburg. Pucketts Grocery in Pigeon Forge.

Guy Fieri has two places....Flavortown is an arcade and bowling location (pigeon Forge) and Chicken GUy in downtown G'Burg. Chicken fingers and salads with 23 different sauces.

I rented a 4 seater UTV for a few days to run around the mountain and stop and swim at streams, etc.

Was awesome.

These things are street legal, so we drove it everywhere....

Was a blast going around the mountains soaking wet from swimming with the radio up (they have huge boombox-type radios strapped to the back)....right next to where you throw an ice chest full of food and beer...

One thing I'd mention...if you go up the mountain, bring food. I dont remember anything to eat up there.

Make an entire day out of it. My kids (14 and 8) loved it.

*we got the all black CanAm

Jayell ranch is fun. They have horseback rides through the mountains, 4 wheelers, and mountain zip lines.
